The Business Development (BD) Specialist will join a dynamic business environment in the Toronto office and work in close consultation with the Manager, Business Development & Client Experience, practice groups and team members to develop and advance a broad range of business development objectives through a variety of marketing activities. The BD Specialist will demonstrate a client‑focused approach with excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to achieve short‑term results while supporting longer‑term strategies. This position is being posted to fill an existing vacancy.This role offers a hybrid workweek. Each week will combine working from home for a few days and working in the office for the balance.What You’ll DoReporting to the Manager, Business Development & Client Experience, the BD Specialist will support the manager to deliver services to select national and international areas of practice/industry groups through taking responsibilities for the following:Practice and Industry Group SupportProvide support for practice and industry group business plans, activities and related budget management and reportingSupport client team program deliverablesSource and coordinate content development and delivery of collateral materials, related advertising and promotional materials; use CRM to advance and support business development and relationship building effortsEvents, Sponsorships, Advertising and AwardsIdentify and assess client event, advertising and strategic sponsorship opportunitiesAssist with creation and execution of client events, liaising with lead lawyers, curating contact lists, developing invitations, managing responses, feedback and reporting through marketing automation and CRM systemsIdentify opportunities to expand the profile of McMillan in the market through speaking engagements, media, social media, etc.Support the development of promotional content for distribution and external publication, including digital and social media, trade magazines,



sponsorships/awards, “best in class” directories, thought leadership and community involvement projectsSupport the coordination and participation in award nomination and submission processesCreate and monitor event schedules and identify and resolve issues as they ariseTrack expenses, monitor budgets and report on event leads and outcomesCollaborate with MBD team members to support best practice protocolsAdministrationCoordinate the assessment and approval process for marketing and BD initiativesAssist with processing the department’s account payables and cheque requisitionsMaintain necessary filing and document management systemsOther duties as assignedWhat You’ll BringPrior experience in business developmentMinimum of 4–6 years of experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services firmSuperior English writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly, persuasively and effectively; French written skills is a definite assetAbility to work well under pressure and handle stress and multiple tasks in a calm and professional mannerEmbrace AI and evolving technology, and strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, proposal software, database management/CRM systems, and analytics toolsTeam player with a flexible attitude, capable of setting direction and establishing priorities, and possess excellent organizational and communication skillsInitiative,
