We are looking for mentors to build supportive and meaningful relationships with students in the Education and Employment Access Program. Mentors will encourage students, share experiences, and help them build confidence as they work toward their academic, personal, and employment goals. Students bring diverse strengths and experiences and may benefit from additional support related to learning differences, diverse abilities, or mental health.:

Qualifications:

- Sincere desire to support and encourage our EEA students to achieve personal, education and career goals
- Ability to communicate with young adults openly and non-judgmentally
- Strong listening skills
- Ability to establish a strong relationship based on respect and mentorship

Responsibilities:

- Attend a mentor orientation and training session in September (4 hour commitment) and monthly meetings (1 hour per month)
- Meet with student/s on a weekly basis to establish rapport and a good working relationship
- Support students to access campus services and get to know the campus
- Assist student in solving problems that may interfere with student’s success at university and support them to access campus services.
- Keep records and other information as requested by mentor coordinator




- Communicate any concerns to the faculty supervisor in a timely manner

Additional Details:

Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for student employment, a student must be in good academic standing with the University. Valuable standing is defined as having a GPA of 2.0 and no current notations regarding academic standing, student conduct or outstanding fees per policy S2003-003 Academic Standing, a copy of which can be found on the University's website.

Domestic students must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more (6 credits) courses at Capilano University throughout the work term; international students must: during the fall and winter semesters, be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of 9 credits at Capilano University throughout the work term; have a valid Study Permit.

Student employees are not required to be enrolled in courses during the summer term to maintain eligibility for employment; however, they must have been enrolled in a minimum of six credits during the preceding spring term. Furthermore, international students must abide by the terms of their work or study visas.

Students who complete their studies in the spring or summer terms may have their appointments extended until August 31 of the same year; students who complete their studies in the fall term may have their appointments extended until December 31 of the same year.
