Join Norland in the East Kootenays of BC and grow with us!The PipelayerThe Pipelayer is responsible for the installation, alignment, and connection of underground piping systems including water, sanitary sewer, and storm systems, ensuring all work meets project specifications and industry standards.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall underground pipe systems including water, sanitary, and storm (PVC, HDPE, concrete, ductile iron)Read and interpret construction drawings, grade stakes, and laser levelsEnsure proper pipe alignment, grade, and elevationPrepare trenches, including checking bedding, compaction, and trench safetyDirect equipment operators during trenching, lifting, and backfilling operationsPerform tie‑ins, connections, and pressure testing supportInstall manholes, catch basins, and related structuresIdentify and manage underground hazards and existing utilitiesMaintain a secure, clean, and organized work environmentWork closely with foremen, operators, and labourers to complete tasks efficientlyQualifications & Requirements2–5+ years of experience as a pipelayer in civil constructionStrong knowledge of underground utility installation practicesAbility to read and interpret drawings and grades accuratelyExperience working around heavy equipment and in trench environmentsPhysically fit and able to perform demanding manual labourStrong communication and teamwork skillsValid driver’s license (preferred)Your own transportation is an asset as the sites are not always on the transit routesCertifications (Assets)CSTS (Construction Safety Training System)Confined Space Entry / MonitorGround Disturbance Level II (or equivalent)Occupational First Aid (Level 1 or higher)Pipe laser and grade checking experienceWorking ConditionsOutdoor work in all weather conditionsPhysically demanding (lifting, bending, working in trenches)Early mornings, overtime, and weekend work as requiredTravel between project sites may be requiredWhat We OfferCompetitive wages based on experienceOpportunities for advancement within Norland LimitedComprehensive benefits package (for eligible employees)Strong safety‑first cultureEnjoy a competitive total rewards package that includes base salary, comprehensive benefits, and other perksCompensationThis is a Unionized position with Copcan – CSWU Craft Labourers. The position will earn Union wages and will have access to extended Union healthcare and benefits, a Union-sponsored pension plan, and additional training through the Training Plan.
