Working across group homes, private residences, and community settings in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, the Support Worker combines practical daily-living assistance with trauma-informed, culturally grounded support. The role blends mentorship, crisis de-escalation, in-home care, and advocacy, and requires the ability to build trusted relationships while working flexibly — independently and as part of a multidisciplinary care team — to help clients reach their personal goals and move safely toward greater stability and independence.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, culturally attuned Support Worker to join a team dedicated to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families with diverse and complex needs. This includes individuals with cognitive or developmental challenges, physical disabilities, and mental health or addictions concerns. You will provide hands-on care, mentorship, and advocacy while helping clients and families build the skills and connections they need to thrive — all delivered through a culturally rich, All-Nations, trauma-informed lens.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide mentoring, emotional support, and practical guidance to individuals and families working toward their goals.
- Deliver nurturing, trauma-informed,



and culturally safe care to youth with complex behavioural or emotional needs, meeting them where they are at.
- Respond calmly to crises and behavioural escalations using relationship-based de-escalation, connecting youth to appropriate resources.
- Support daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and transportation.
- Administer medications and follow health care plans as prescribed, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with community resources (cultural teachings, mental health, addictions supports) and the broader circle of care.
- Advocate for the rights and well-being of clients, ensuring access to needed resources and services.
- Engage clients in culturally appropriate programs, traditions, and recreational opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records, timesheets, and mileage submissions while safeguarding confidential information.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices.
- Maintain alertness and focus for the full duration of all shifts, and remain flexible to accommodate client and family needs.

Qualifications

- Grade 12 education and experience in the Human Services field.




- Prior experience providing support in a social services, caregiving, or community-based setting, ideally with children and youth facing complex needs.
- Knowledge of addictions, trauma, and their impact on families; familiarity with the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation is an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of First Nations perspectives, culture, and traditional philosophies, and comfort supporting an All-Nations approach.
- Robust communication, organizational, and crisis-intervention skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Empathy, patience, and sound judgment in ethically handling sensitive information and client relationships.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with a satisfactory driver's abstract preferred.
- First Aid/CPR, ASIST, NVCI, or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training considered an asset.
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Willingness to receive specialized training relevant to the client group and to work a flexible schedule.
