Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will assist the Program Director to provide direct support to adults with autism in a day program setting, assisting with daily living activities, social skills development, and participation in recreational, educational, and vocational activities. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a team, and a commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support to adults with autism based on their needs, preferences, and goals.
- Assist in the implementation of structured activities and programs, including daily living, social, recreational, and vocational tasks.
- Promote independence and community involvement through skills training and guided experiences.
- Foster social interaction and communication between participants, encouraging positive relationships and behaviour.
- Provide emotional and behavioural support using person-centered approaches and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Assist with personal care needs.
- Monitor and document participant progress, including behavioral observations and skill development.
- Support participants in developing life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and money management.
- Collaborate with other team members, including program coordinators, family members, and external service providers.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education or training in education, special education, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience working with adults with autism or developmental disabilities (preferred).
- Relevant training or certification in autism, developmental disabilities, or related fields (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Behavioral Support Techniques) (preferred).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse needs.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with participants.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to assist participants with mobility or personal care, if necessary.
Job Type: Full time Pay: $40,000.00-$45,000.00 per year
