Position Summary The Support Worker & Life Coach is a hybrid role that combines hands-on, relationship-based support with structured, goal-oriented coaching to help children, youth, and families move toward greater stability, confidence, and independence. Working across group homes, private residences, and community settings in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, this person provides practical daily-living assistance and trauma-informed, culturally grounded care, while also guiding clients through personal goal-setting, motivation-building, and life-skills development. The role blends mentorship, crisis de-escalation, in-home care, and advocacy with coaching techniques such as strengths-based goal planning and accountability check-ins, requiring the ability to build trusted relationships while working flexibly — independently and as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, culturally attuned Support Worker & Life Coach to join a team dedicated to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families with diverse and complex needs. This includes individuals with cognitive or developmental challenges, physical disabilities, and mental health or addictions concerns. In this hybrid role, you will provide hands-on care, mentorship, and advocacy, and also work directly with clients to set meaningful personal goals, build life skills, and stay motivated and accountable as they work toward them — all delivered through a culturally rich, All-Nations, trauma-informed lens.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide mentoring, emotional support, and practical guidance to individuals and families working toward their goals.
- Deliver nurturing, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care to youth with complex behavioural or emotional needs, meeting them where they are at.

- Partner one-on-one with clients as a life coach to identify personal goals, build action plans, and track progress across areas such as education, employment, independent living, and personal well-being.
- Use strengths-based coaching techniques to build clients' motivation, self-confidence, and decision-making skills.
- Respond calmly to crises and behavioural escalations using relationship-based de-escalation, connecting youth to appropriate resources.
- Support daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and transportation.
- Administer medications and follow health care plans as prescribed, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with community resources (cultural teachings, mental health, addictions supports) and the broader circle of care.
- Advocate for the rights and well-being of clients, ensuring access to needed resources and services.
- Engage clients in culturally appropriate programs, traditions, and recreational opportunities.
- Facilitate regular goal-review and accountability check-ins, celebrating milestones and adjusting plans as circumstances change.
- Maintain accurate records, timesheets, and mileage submissions while safeguarding confidential information.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development in both direct-care and coaching best practices.
- Maintain alertness and focus for the full duration of all shifts, and remain flexible to accommodate client and family needs.

Qualifications

- Grade 12 education and experience in the Human Services field.
- Prior experience providing support in a social services, caregiving, or community-based setting, ideally with children and youth facing complex needs.
- Life coaching certification (e.g., ICF or equivalent) is an asset, or a demonstrated willingness to complete coaching-specific training.
- Knowledge of addictions, trauma, and their impact on families; familiarity with the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation is an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of First Nations perspectives, culture, and traditional philosophies, and comfort supporting an All-Nations approach.
- Strong communication, organizational, and crisis-intervention skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Skilled at active listening, motivational interviewing, and goal-setting conversations.
- Empathy, patience, and sound judgment in ethically handling sensitive information and client relationships.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with a satisfactory driver's abstract preferred.
- First Aid/CPR, ASIST, NVCI, or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training considered an asset.
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Willingness to receive specialized training relevant to the client group and to work a flexible schedule.

Why Join Us This role offers the chance to combine hands-on care with meaningful coaching work, within a supportive, experienced team committed to crisis prevention, cultural connection, and helping children, youth, and families build the skills and confidence to reach their goals. If you're passionate about impactful, relationship-centred work and committed to cultural sensitivity, we encourage you to apply.
