Description

Reporting to the Director, Nunavut Bureau of Statistics, the Survey Manager / Senior Statistician is responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, development, implementation, and management of statistical surveys and analytical projects across Nunavut. The incumbent leads the application of robust statistical survey methodologies, including questionnaire design, sampling strategies, data collection, and quality control standards, to ensure that all outputs meet professional, national, and territorial standards. This position oversees comprehensive field survey operations and data capture processes, provides expert guidance on statistical research and data analysis, and ensures the delivery of accurate, reliable, and culturally relevant statistical information to support evidence-based decision-making, policy development, and program planning throughout the Government of Nunavut.

Responsibilities The key responsibilities of the Survey Manager/ Senior Statistician include but are not limited to:

- Provide technical leadership and expertise in the development and application of statistical methodologies, including questionnaire design, sampling techniques, and data quality standards.

- Plan, coordinate, and manage territorial field operations for statistical surveys, including developing operational schedules, training materials, and travel plans.

- Supervise and provide direction to project teams, field interviewers, and data entry staff, ensuring consistent performance, adherence to procedures, and timely data collection.

- Oversee data capture, processing, and validation systems to resolve inconsistencies and ensure survey data is processed reliably and securely.

- Lead the analysis, interpretation,



and dissemination of survey data, producing statistical tables, analytical reports, and executive presentations for departments and decision-makers.

- Represent the Nunavut Bureau of Statistics in technical discussions, intergovernmental working groups, and collaborations with Statistics Canada and other external statistical agencies.

- Identify emerging data needs related to Nunavut’s social and economic conditions to contribute to the ongoing strategic development of the territorial statistical program.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized university degree in statistics, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or related field, and three (3) years of research and analysis, survey operations or related work experience, which also includes experience coordinating the work of others in a project-based setting. A master’s degree in applied statistics or mathematics are considered assets.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
