The opportunity:
The system and data engineer plays a key role in advancing digital transformation initiatives across research, data access, data management, data analytics, and web teams at MCHP. The incumbent designs and delivers integrated digital solutions that improve operational efficiency, support data‑driven decision‑making, and enhance user experience.
The system and data engineer translates MCHP's operational improvement priorities into working software — developing full-stack web applications, automated business process workflows, and data integration solutions that reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and accelerate research delivery. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering and operational problem-solving, working closely with data governance staff, data managers, and the analyst community to understand current-state processes and design practical, scalable improvements. The role also involves building business intelligence and reporting solutions (e.g., Power BI dashboards and data models) and developing AI‑enabled capabilities to support operational and analytical needs.
Working within a hybrid technology environment, the developer leverages Microsoft 365 services, on‑premises infrastructure, open‑source tools, and approved cloud platforms. All solutions must align with institutional data governance, privacy, and security standards, particularly when working with sensitive research and administrative data. This position directly supports MCHP's strategic goals of reducing project timelines, improving research-data readiness, and building the organizational capacity to apply AI responsibly within a regulated health data environment.
