Sapphire Stream Technology
Toronto
Windows Driver Development Engineer / Systems Engineer
Position Summary
Sapphire Stream Technology is seeking a skilled Windows Driver Development Engineer / Systems Engineer with strong systems-level debugging and problem-solving capabilities. This role will focus on resolving issues within Neural Processing Unit (NPU) software programs, enabling new platform-level features, and developing scalable engineering solutions using AI-assisted tools and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, debug, and optimize Windows device drivers and systems-level software.
- Investigate and resolve bugs affecting NPU programs, drivers, firmware interfaces, and platform components.
- Support the enablement, integration, and validation of new platform-level features.
- Perform root-cause analysis of complex issues involving hardware, drivers, operating systems, and applications.
- Analyze crash dumps, logs, traces, performance data, and system behavior to identify software defects and integration issues.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, operating-system, validation, and application teams to resolve cross-functional technical problems.
- Develop scalable debugging, testing, and issue-triage solutions using AI, automation, and data-analysis tools.
- Improve diagnostic utilities, test frameworks, scripts, and engineering workflows.
- Create technical documentation covering design decisions, debugging findings, resolutions, and feature-enablement procedures.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, defect triage, and release-readiness activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience developing or debugging Windows device drivers or systems-level software.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++.
- Solid understanding of Windows architecture, kernel-mode development, memory management, interrupts, synchronization, and hardware/software interfaces.
- Experience with Windows Driver Kit, Visual Studio, WinDbg, crash-dump analysis, ETW, or similar diagnostic tools.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex system debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Experience troubleshooting issues across drivers, firmware, hardware, operating systems, and applications.
- Ability to design scalable solutions instead of applying only issue-specific fixes.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with NPUs, GPUs, AI accelerators, machine-learning platforms, or other specialized computing hardware.
- Experience enabling new features on Windows-based hardware platforms.
- Knowledge of PCIe, ACPI, power management, DMA, memory-mapped I/O, or related platform technologies.
- Experience with Windows Hardware Lab Kit testing, driver certification, or release validation.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted debugging, log analysis, defect classification, code generation, or automated root-cause analysis.
- Experience in semiconductor, embedded-systems, automotive, or high-performance computing environments.
Success in This Role The successful candidate will be able to independently investigate complex platform issues, identify their root causes, implement reliable fixes, and develop reusable AI-assisted solutions that improve debugging and feature-enablement efficiency across multiple programs and platforms.
