The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEH) is seeking Support Workers to work with the Indigenous Street Community and support those who recently transitioned into culturally supportive housing.Job DetailsPosition Type: Casual.Location: This position may be scheduled across multiple ACEH housing sites located in Victoria, BC.Wage: $28.84 per hour (with a $2.06 night premium if scheduled between 11 pm and 7 am, bringing the wage up to $30.9 per hour). Casual employees receive an additional 10.64% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays.For all hours worked at unionized sites, union dues will be deducted in accordance with the Collective Agreement.About the RoleProvide one-on-one support, including regular wellness checks for the Family MembersProvide group support, advocacy, mentorship, and navigating resources for the Family MembersSupport and encourage the Family Members to participate in cultural programming, assist Family Members in identifying and overcoming barriers to their participation, and connect them with the ACEH Outreach team as neededRespond to emergencies, communicate with the House Manager and First Responders, and ensure the required follow-up paperwork is accurate and completeProvide de‑escalation and conflict resolution between Family Members when requiredProvide access in and out of the building for FM's entry and exit of building.Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of surfaces and shared spaces following guidelines and protocols in response to COVID-19Ongoing janitorial dutiesAssistance for food services and kitchen duties when neededParticipate in day-to-day home needs and activitiesActively establish relationships and trust with Family MembersSpend quality time and engage in day-to-day activities with Family MembersAlways offer support to Family MembersAvailability RequirementsAvailability required for four (4) 12-hour shifts per month:Two (2) day shifts (7:00 AM –7:00 PM)Two (2) night shifts (7:00 PM –7:00 AM)Working a minimum of two (2) 12‑hour shifts per month, provided work is available, in order to maintain casual employment status.Qualifications and Education Requirements1-year related experience working with vulnerable peoples and/or providing care. Preference given to those who have worked with Indigenous peoples and have training/education in relevant Indigenous post‑secondaryValid First Aid CertificationConsent to the Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check for Working with Vulnerable AdultsPreferred Naloxone Overdose Training and CertificationPreferred Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention CertificationPreferred Food Safe CertificationExperience or personal insights working cooperatively with people with disabilities, lived experience, and addictions are considered an asset.Experience working with non‑profit organizations, family support, social services, and Indigenous support services and programs is considered an asset.Preferred SkillsProgressive understanding of persistent mental illness, addictions, and other challenges and how these impact peoples overall health, wellbeing, and quality of lifeAbility to work in a holistic, professional,
