About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Pipeline & Technical Supervisor / Senior Harmony & Workflow TD to support an upcoming book-based animated production based at our studio in Kingston, Ontario.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role responsible for the production pipeline and the core studio technology environment supporting a primarily 2D Toon Boom Harmony workflow. The successful candidate will act as the principal technical resource for the production, supporting Harmony, rigging, animation, FX/compositing, production tracking, storage, workstations and day-to-day production technology.
The role requires someone who can both design and maintain production systems and provide practical artist-facing support when technical issues arise.
What You'll Do• Own and maintain the production’s Toon Boom Harmony pipeline, including project structure, scene standards, libraries, palettes, templates, naming conventions and technical workflow.
- Establish and maintain production file structures, storage conventions, versioning and publish practices across the Kingston studio.
- Configure and administer ShotGrid / Autodesk Flow Production Tracking, including user accounts, permissions, statuses, project structure and technical workflow.
- Set up, maintain and troubleshoot the local production server, shared storage and production access required by the team.
- Configure and support production workstations, software installs, user accounts, permissions and other production technology required by artists and production staff.
- Support Toon Boom Harmony licensing, Adobe Creative Cloud applications and other production software used by the project.
- Establish and document reliable backup, archive and recovery procedures for production data.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for systems, workflows, credentials, configurations and production standards.
- Provide direct technical support to artists working in Harmony, including scene troubleshooting, asset issues, palettes, libraries, exports and workflow problems.
- Support rigging and asset-build workflows, including rig architecture, technical standards, troubleshooting and animation-facing rig fixes.
- Work with riggers and animators to resolve technical issues that affect performance, usability or production efficiency.
- Support technical solutions for special poses, drawing substitutions, character variants and other animation requirements that fall outside standard rig functionality.
- Establish and maintain the technical handoff between Harmony, FX/compositing and editorial.
- Define render, export, naming, versioning, alpha,
image-sequence and delivery standards for downstream compositing and post-production.
- Support integration between Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
- Help establish reusable technical approaches for FX, compositing and production finishing.
- Explore, test and implement approved AI-assisted tools and workflows that can accelerate visual development, design iteration, FX development and other production tasks without compromising downstream production requirements.
- Support rapid iteration of props, locations, character concepts, graphic elements and FX treatments using a combination of traditional and approved AI-assisted workflows.
- Evaluate emerging AI and production tools and recommend practical applications that improve speed, consistency or production efficiency.
- Develop and document clear workflows for converting exploratory or AI-assisted outputs into controlled, artist-directed and production-ready assets for Harmony, Photoshop, After Effects and other downstream production use.
- Work with the Director, production team, riggers, animators and FX/compositing artists to resolve cross-department technical issues.
- Identify technical risks early and recommend practical solutions appropriate to the production schedule and budget.
- Provide technical onboarding and workflow guidance to new artists joining the production.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for production technology and pipeline issues at the Kingston studio.
What We're Looking For• Senior-level professional experience with Toon Boom Harmony in an animated television or comparable production environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of Harmony production pipelines, scene structure, libraries, palettes, asset management and troubleshooting.
- Experience with character rigging and Harmony rig architecture.
- Experience supporting animators and resolving rig, scene and workflow issues during active production.
- Experience designing or maintaining animation production pipelines across multiple departments.
- Experience with ShotGrid / Autodesk Flow Production Tracking administration or comparable production-tracking systems.
- Experience configuring and maintaining shared production storage, file structures, user access and production workstations.
- Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere Pro within an animation production workflow.
- Understanding of 2D compositing, FX, render/export workflows and downstream post-production requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to diagnose whether an issue belongs to pipeline, rigging, animation, FX, compositing or production workflow and determine an efficient solution.
- Ability to document technical systems and workflows clearly for artists and production staff.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a studio production environment without relying on a separate internal IT department.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to support artists with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Experience evaluating and integrating AI-assisted visual-development or production tools into a professional animation workflow.
- Strong understanding of how exploratory and AI-assisted outputs can be refined, controlled and prepared for professional downstream production use.
- Ability to assess emerging tools critically and distinguish useful production efficiencies from workflows that create unnecessary downstream cleanup or risk.
- Experience with anime-influenced, stylized or hybrid 2D production is considered an asset.
- Experience with scripting, automation or pipeline tools is considered an asset.
Portfolio / Experience RequiredApplicants should include a résumé and a brief summary of relevant production pipeline and technical experience.
