Technical Sales Representative
Atlas Geostructural Inc.
Location: Cambridge, Ontario
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Work Week: 40 hours
Vacation: 3 weeks annually
Travel: Some travel throughout Ontario required; approved business travel expenses are fully reimbursed.

Atlas works closely with contractors, engineers, consultants, owners and project teams to provide practical field-based technical services that confirm construction quality and compliance with project requirements.
Position Summary
Atlas Geostructural Inc. is seeking a Technical Sales Representative to develop client relationships, identify project opportunities and prepare technical service proposals for Atlas's testing, inspection, surveying, monitoring and engineering services.
This is not a conventional sales position. The successful candidate must be comfortable discussing construction and geotechnical applications with contractors, engineers and project managers and must be able to explain what service is required, what equipment is required to perform the work, how that equipment is used and what information or results the testing or inspection will provide.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in construction testing, inspection, geotechnical services, deep foundations, shoring, engineering services, technical equipment sales or a related technical field.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Sales & Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities throughout Ontario.
- Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, shoring and foundation contractors, consultants, engineers, owners and other industry professionals.
- Respond to incoming requests for quotations and technical service inquiries.
- Review drawings, specifications, testing requirements and client information to establish the required scope of work.
- Prepare clear and competitive service proposals and quotations.
- Follow up on outstanding proposals and maintain communication with prospective clients.
- Develop repeat business and long-term relationships with existing customers.
- Identify additional Atlas services that may benefit clients or their projects.
- Attend client meetings, project meetings, industry events and networking opportunities as required.
Technical Service Knowledge The Technical Sales Representative will be expected to develop a strong understanding of Atlas's services and be capable of explaining them to clients. This includes being able to discuss:
- The purpose and general methodology of different testing and inspection procedures.
- What field equipment is required to complete a particular test.
- How the equipment is set up and used.
- Site access, space and preparation requirements.
- Typical testing durations and field requirements.
- Information required from the contractor or engineer before testing can proceed.
- General reporting and documentation produced following the work.
- The difference between various testing, monitoring and inspection methods.
- When different services may be appropriate based on project requirements.
Depending on the service, equipment may include hydraulic testing systems, jacks, pumps, load cells, pressure gauges, displacement measurement equipment, survey instruments, monitoring equipment, data-acquisition equipment and other specialized field-testing instrumentation. The Technical Sales Representative is not expected to act as the Engineer of Record, but must have sufficient technical knowledge to confidently discuss the application with the customer and coordinate with Atlas's engineering and field personnel when additional technical input is required.
Proposal Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing proposals for Atlas services, including:
- Understanding the client's requested scope.
- Reviewing available drawings, specifications and project information.
- Determining the type and quantity of testing or inspection required.
- Determining anticipated field personnel and equipment requirements.
- Establishing expected field duration.
- Coordinating internally regarding technical requirements where necessary.
- Preparing pricing and proposal documents.
- Clearly identifying assumptions, inclusions and exclusions.
- Following up with clients through award or close-out of the opportunity.
- Coordinating the transition of awarded projects from sales to engineering and field operations.
Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Geotechnical or construction testing
- Shoring and deep foundations
- Construction inspection and quality control
- Civil or geotechnical engineering services
- Surveying or instrumentation
- Foundation load testing
- Technical construction equipment sales
- Testing or monitoring equipment sales
- Heavy civil construction
- Engineering or construction business development
Previous experience selling specialized technical equipment or services to contractors, engineers or industrial clients is considered a strong asset.
Technical Knowledge
Candidates should possess or be capable of quickly developing working knowledge of:
- Shoring systems
- Tieback anchors
- Micropiles
- Driven piles
- Drilled shafts and caissons
- Foundation load testing
- Construction quality-control procedures
- Inspection requirements
- Surveying and structural movement monitoring
- Testing equipment and instrumentation
- Reading construction drawings and specifications
A technical diploma,
engineering technology background, construction background or equivalent industry experience is an asset; however, practical industry knowledge and the ability to understand and sell technical services are considered equally important. Skills & Attributes The successful candidate should be:
- Technically minded and comfortable discussing construction applications.
- Confident communicating with contractors, engineers and senior project personnel.
- Able to translate technical requirements into clear scopes of work and proposals.
- Comfortable discussing equipment, testing procedures and field requirements.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple quotations and opportunities simultaneously.
- Professional and responsive in client communications.
- Self-motivated and capable of developing new customer relationships.
- Commercially aware and comfortable discussing pricing and project requirements.
- Able to work collaboratively with engineers, technicians and field personnel.
- Strong in written and verbal communication.
Travel & Driver Requirements
- A valid Ontario driver's licence is required.
- Some travel to client offices, construction projects and industry events throughout Ontario will be required.
- Approved business travel expenses will be reimbursed by Atlas Geostructural Inc.
- Occasional travel outside normal office hours may be necessary depending on project or client requirements.
