Company Overview
Softworks Group Inc. is a Canadian software company and the team behind Alinity, the leading purpose-built regulatory management platform. Alinity helps regulatory authorities operate more effectively, supporting faster and more consistent decision-making while maintaining a defensible record throughout the regulatory process. We pride ourselves on providing an energetic, respectful, and inclusive work environment where every team member is valued.
About the Role
Softworks Group Inc. is looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join our Customer Success team. This is a technical, client-facing software engineering role that combines application support with client-specific development and customization work.
Approximately half of the role involves technical support, while the other half involves billable customization work such as custom reports, data fixes, workflows, modules, and other client-specific enhancements. You’ll work directly with clients to understand their needs and manage assigned work from initial discussion through troubleshooting, development, testing, and implementation, with support from the team when needed.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their software development career who already has some practical software experience and wants to develop strong skills in databases, enterprise software, client communication, and real-world problem solving.
What You'll Do
- Work directly with clients to understand requests, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support through tickets, meetings, and screen sharing
- Manage assigned support and customization work from initial discussion through development, testing, and implementation
- Write complex queries and stored procedures using SQL and T-SQL
- Perform data analysis, mapping, corrections, and other database-related work
- Develop client-specific solutions, including custom reports, workflows, modules, and web forms using XML and JavaScript
- Build Power BI reports when required
- Test and debug solutions and implement changes within client environments
- Collaborate with other engineers and team members to resolve more complex issues
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field
- Some practical software development or technical software experience
- Intermediate skills in SQL/T-SQL, HTML, and JavaScript
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- High attention to detail and the ability to work carefully in production environments
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to clients
- Ability to manage technical requests independently while collaborating with team members when needed
- Ability and willingness to learn complex software and client business processes
Experience with XML, Power BI, database troubleshooting, SaaS applications, or client-facing technical work is an asset.
Location and Work Eligibility
Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in Canada and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future. Candidates must also be able to work full-time from our Edmonton office (located in Lynwood Centre until end of September 2026) during the initial training period before eventually transitioning to a hybrid schedule. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently based in Edmonton or the surrounding area.
Our Hiring Process
Our hiring process is designed to assess both technical ability and the communication skills needed to work directly with clients.
1. Online Technical Assessment | approximately 60–90 minutes
Candidates will complete two online technical assessment covering SQL and technical problem solving.
The assessment is proctored, including screen and camera recording, to help us validate technical competency and ensure a consistent assessment process for all candidates.
2. Communication & EQ Interview | approximately 20–30 minutes
Candidates who successfully complete the technical assessment will meet with our CEO for an introductory interview.
This conversation focuses on communication, interpersonal skills, previous experience, and comfort working directly with clients and team members.
3. Final Technical Interview & Working Session | approximately 75–90 minutes The final stage combines a deeper technical interview with practical discussion and problem-solving exercises. The goal is to understand how you think, communicate, and solve real-world problems rather than simply test your ability to memorize technical concepts.
4. References
Our preferred candidate will be asked to provide professional references.
5. Offer
Following successful reference checks, the selected candidate will receive a formal employment offer.
