Qualifications A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
5+ years progressive experience in accounting, incl. payroll accounting and personal tax activities
CPA designation (or actively working towards it) and/or PCP designations are an asset
Knowledge and Skills Advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel
Experience working with MS Dynamics is an asset
Excellent communications skills, written and spoken
Experience preparing personal tax returns
Strong understanding of accounting principles and Canadian Tax requirements
Ability to multi-task
High attention to detail, a positive attitude, and tact
Able to work well independently or as a team player
Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional manner
Accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred
Knowledge of German is an asset
STRABAG - Work On Progress: Becoming Climate Neutral by 2040.
The General Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions, including payroll accounting, processing accounts payable, tax, bank account reconciliation and other day-to-day accounting and finance operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and post payroll journal entries, accruals, payroll amounts withdrawals
Reconcile general ledger accounts including prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, etc.
Review and reconcile all payroll clearing and government accounts, WSIB, EHT, CRA
Maintain and provide correspondence with outside government agencies when required
Review and process postings for Union dues and government remittances for all payroll accounts
Reconcile banks, cash, credit cards,
and process employee expense transactions
Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with government regulations and statutory legislation
Partner with external tax team to support preparing personal tax returns and to ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws, accounting standards and reporting deadlines
Prepare EHT, WHT and T4A-NR summaries, process EHT and withholding tax payments
Record rent, utilities, credit card transactions, bank deposits.
Monitor AR/AP and support tax and regulatory fillings
Assist in month end accounting procedures and year-end audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
Identify opportunities for process improvements and support implementation of best practicesPerforms other related duties as assigned
