Freightera is a Canadian technology and logistics company operating an online freight marketplace that connects businesses with transportation providers across Canada and the United States.
About the Role
This is a hands‑on senior accounting position with significant exposure to the company’s financial operations, management team and external accountants.
The successful candidate will take an active role in month‑end and year‑end reporting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, tax compliance, internal controls and external review engagements.
We are ideally looking for someone who has experience working with or leading a review engagement and who is comfortable preparing financial statements and supporting schedules with limited supervision.
Experience with IFRS is strongly preferred.
This role is intended to have significant advancement potential. Our goal is for the successful candidate, based on performance and capability, to develop into a Controller position within approximately 1–2 years, with the chance to take on broader finance leadership responsibilities as Freightera continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate monthly and year-end closing processes
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations
Maintain and reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
Analyze financial results and investigate unusual balances and variances
Support preparation of management reporting and financial analysis
Review accounts receivable, accounts payable and other accounting balances
Prepare and maintain documentation supporting financial statement balances
Coordinate and support annual external review engagements
Prepare schedules and working papers requested by external accountants
Respond to accounting and review engagement questions and follow through on outstanding items
Assist with the preparation and review of GST/HST, PST and other tax filings
Support cash-flow, working-capital and balance sheet reporting
Assist with accounting treatment and financial reporting under IFRS
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and documentation
Review work completed by junior accounting staff and provide guidance where required
Work with management on budgeting, forecasting and other finance projects
Take increasing ownership of the company’s accounting and financial reporting function as experience and responsibilities grow
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
CPA designation strongly preferred
Candidates who have completed the CFE or are actively progressing toward their CPA designation may also be considered
Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong full‑cycle accounting experience
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting schedules
Experience participating in or leading an external review engagement
Strong understanding of month‑end and year‑end closing processes
Experience with account reconciliations and general ledger accounting
Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
CPA designation
Experience independently coordinating or leading a review engagement
Experience preparing financial statements under IFRS
Experience working directly with external accountants or auditors
Public accounting experience or a combination of public practice and industry experience
Experience with multi‑currency accounting
Experience in transportation, logistics, technology or another transaction‑intensive business
Experience reviewing or supervising junior accounting staff
Experience developing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
Exposure to budgeting, forecasting and management reporting

For the right candidate, this role provides an opportunity to take progressively greater ownership of accounting, reporting, internal controls and finance operations.
Our objective is for a high‑performing Senior Accountant to have the opportunity to progress into a Controller role within approximately 1–2 years. Longer term, there may also be opportunities to take on broader senior finance leadership responsibilities as the company grows.
Advancement will depend on demonstrated performance, technical capability, leadership ability and the evolving needs of the business.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is $70,000–$85,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, CPA status and the candidate’s ability to independently manage senior‑level accounting responsibilities.
