Located on the northwestern tip of Long Lake, Nanaimo Memory Care is an 83-bed beautiful residential complex care community. Offering resident‑centered care with a specialized focus on our award‑winning Avenir Alzheimer’s program, the facility is designed to encourage interaction and independence while meeting residents’ unique needs by promoting their individuality and enhancing their health and spiritual well‑being.
This community will be the first stand‑alone memory care residence available to seniors living with dementia on Vancouver Island. Residents will benefit from Nanaimo Memory Care’s neighbourhood design concept and secure home‑like environment. Alzheimer’s‑trained licensed professional staff are on site 24 hours a day and conduct meaningful engagements personalized to each resident’s preferences. Our residents enjoy elegantly furnished private and semi‑private suites with a personal bathroom.
Job Description
Position Summary: Perform various resident care activities and related non‑professional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents.
Essential Job Functions
Assist all residents with high‑quality personal care, including bathing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, and height and weight checks per policy.
Make all beds as needed in the morning, turn down in the evening, and strip beds once each week or as required.
Perform all personal laundry on the resident’s first scheduled shower day.
Handle linens per shift where applicable.
Assist residents with meal times: cut food, encourage eating, and feed when needed.
Utilize all aspects of special programs offered by the community on an ongoing basis.
Maintain a calm atmosphere at all times.
Complete all assignments on time in accordance with the chain of command when the Director of Health Services is not on duty.
Report any unusual resident behavior (change of status) to the Director of Health Services.
Check the station bulletin board per shift for the Special Needs Sheet and other pertinent information.
Provide activities as planned or directed.
Document resident status per policy.
Respond to all call lights and emergencies promptly.
Provide emergency care within scope of practice.
Enforce all facility policies appropriately.

Qualifications
Education: High School diploma preferred.
Years of Experience: One year of experience as a CAN, PCA, or RA preferred. One year of experience in assisted living or health care preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Willingness to be available for any emergencies regarding the facility.
Basic proficiency in English to understand and communicate with residents.
Special Requirements
Doctor’s statement verifying free from communicable disease.

Medium work – exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity Requirements
Resident Care/Assessment: Must have intact color, depth perception, and field of vision.
