The Material Handler is responsible for supporting the efficient flow, preparation, and staging of materials throughout the Break & Shear department. This position assists with material preparation, laser operations, pre-assembly, and general department activities to ensure materials are ready for fabrication and production requirements are met safely and efficiently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate sanding equipment to prepare materials as required for fabrication.

Deburr, grind, clean, and finish metal components to remove sharp edges, slag, and other imperfections.

Assist with loading and unloading materials and parts from laser tables.

Measure and pre-cut linear metal and other materials according to production requirements.

Stage and organize materials required for upcoming fabrication and welding activities.

Pre-assemble components and materials for Welders to support efficient production flow.

Move and handle raw materials, work-in-progress, and completed components throughout the department.

Verify materials and components against work orders, drawings, cut lists, or other production documentation as required.

Assist with routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, and basic upkeep of departmental equipment.

Maintain organized material storage and work areas to support productive workflow and inventory control.

Identify and report damaged materials, equipment concerns, quality issues, or material shortages to the appropriate supervisor.

Follow established safety procedures when handling metal, operating equipment, and working around machinery.

Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with company housekeeping and safety standards.

Assist other members of the Break & Shear and production teams as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS





Previous experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, or material handling environment is an asset.

Experience working with metal products and fabrication equipment is an asset.

Ability to safely operate or learn to operate sanding, cutting, and material handling equipment.

Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic measurements accurately.

Ability to read and follow work orders, production documentation, and basic drawings.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to organize and prioritize materials based on production requirements.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a production team.

Reliable, safety-conscious, and willing to assist in a variety of departmental tasks.
