Heavy Equipment Operator
Full time, Permanent

This is not a desk job.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team that values cooperative, mutual respect, and safe operations.
Operators may find themselves running a grader, loader, excavator, snow removal equipment, trucks, or other specialized equipment - sometimes all within the same day.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Safe and efficient operation of heavy mobile equipment including grading, snow & ice control operations;
Supporting roads, drainage systems, and public infrastructure;
Routine inspections and preventative maintenance while recording accurate equipment records;
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience & Attributes:
Minimum Class 3 BC Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (preference given to Class 1 D/L);
Current driver's abstract satisfactory to the Employer;
Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment with a strong commitment to workplace safety;
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions;
Strong work ethic,
reliability, attention to detail and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Assets:
Municipal Public Works experience, supporting roads, drainage, water, wastewater & winter maintenance.
Occupational First Aid certification.
BC Small Water/Wastewater Systems certification considered an asset.
Experience in construction, forestry, mining, highways, utilities, agriculture or related activities

This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between the District of Stewart and CUPE Local 1804. The current rate as of January 2026 for this position is $42.26 / hr
