Tasks Calculate and prepare cheques for payroll
Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
Post journal entries
Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
Prepare trial balance of books
Reconcile accounts
May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties
Recommend improvements to accounting systems and management practices
Maintain payroll
Examine accounting records
Ensure accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures and internal control
Audit accounting records to determine income, exemptions, payable taxes, compliance with reporting regulations and existence of fraud
Notify debtors of overdue accounts and payments
Prepare statements of earnings for employees, indicating gross and net salaries and deductions such as taxes, union dues, garnishments and insurance and pension plans
