They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique prospect to work with an industry leader. Our Client is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.DescriptionThe Mechanical Site Engineer in this role will provide field engineering, commissioning oversight, and construction-phase quality management for medium-to-high complexity mechanical capital projects within the client's generation stations. Located in the Campbell River area, this role supports multi‑year capital work (including Comox/Puntledge and other regional projects) with an expected project horizon of approximately 10 years.This is a heavily field-focused role requiring an independent, self-directed professional who can act as the Engineer of Record (POR) or the POR’s delegate in the field. You will work day-to-day on‑site with engineers, construction managers, and contractors to resolve technical issues in real time, execute commissioning plans, and ensure all work aligns with safety, budget, and EGBC standards.ResponsibilitiesField Engineering & Technical Decision MakingServe as the on‑site delegate for the Professional of Record (POR), providing confident, compliant field engineering decisions (such as responding to RFIs, dispositioning site issues, and confirming installation, fit‑up, and precision alignment).Real‑Time Problem Solving: Resolve complex, "unusual" field engineering problems and site deficiencies through independent study, practical judgment, and direct collaboration with contractors.Coordinate cross‑functionally with internal engineers, construction management,
and external contractors to ensure mechanical components seamlessly integrate with electrical infrastructure and control systems.Commissioning & Field OperationsSystem Commissioning: Own, support, and execute comprehensive commissioning plans, test procedures, and schedules for heavy mechanical systems—specifically focusing on large‑scale gates, hoists, and wire rope systems.Instrumentation Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and commission instrumentation specifically tied to wire rope hoists and interconnected station equipment.Exercise high‑level technical judgment during field testing to prevent inadvertent impacts on interconnected station assets. Manage non‑conformance reports (NCRs), issue tracking, and final close‑out documentation.Project & Quality ManagementAssist management in meeting strict safety, cost, and scheduling objectives. Review contractor work quality, recommend progress payments, and prepare detailed engineering reports.Document and seal all field deliverables under the organization's Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and applicable Permit to Practice (P2P) guidelines.Qualifications8 years in a relevant mechanical engineering field, heavily weighted toward structured, heavy‑industry field execution, on‑site construction support, and commissioning (purely design‑focused profiles will not be considered).Proven experience with heavy mechanical systems (e.G., rotating equipment, piping, large‑scale weldments). Direct experience with hydro generation station gates, hoists, and wire rope systems is highly preferred; however, transferable commissioning and scheduling experience from other heavy industries (such as Oil & Gas or Mining) will be considered.Exposure to design intent, including familiarity with 2D and 3D parametric modeling (Autodesk/CADD applications)
to interpret and verify corporate CADD standards in the field.Multi‑Disciplinary Coordination (Mechanical/Electrical) Experience where your mechanical designs had to integrate with electrical infrastructure or control systems.Demonstrated capability in conflict resolution and practical problem‑solving directly with contractors on active construction sites.Proven ability to navigate competing project priorities on‑site while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to safety, compliance, and quality.Valid class 5 vehicle license in good standingEducation and CertificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized post‑secondary institution.PCG—P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hiredMust hold and maintain a valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 certification for the duration of employment.Additional InformationLocation: Campbell River, BC and surrounding area. The successful candidate must reside in or relocate to the local area. Note: Live‑out allowance (LOA) is not available and will not be considered.Hours & Schedule: A mix of standard office/hybrid hours, combined with periodic, mandatory overtime aligned to construction shifts, peak schedule windows, and on‑site testing/commissioning blocks.Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”.
