Role Overview
The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will provide technical leadership, engineering analysis, and discipline oversight for the civil and structural components of projects executed by HOCS Projects. This role will serve as the Civil Structural Senior Engineer on projects of varying size and complexity, with accountability for discipline scope, budget, schedule, technical quality, and successful project execution.The successful candidate will work closely with clients, Project Managers, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Key Responsibilities
Civil & Structural Engineering
Engineering Leadership: Serve as the Civil/Structural Lead and/or Senior Engineer on projects of varying size and complexity.
Engineering & Design: Lead and perform civil/structural engineering analysis and design for structural steel, foundations, site development, and other facility infrastructure.
Technical Deliverables: Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical studies, material take-offs (MTOs), cost estimates, and other discipline deliverables.
Engineering Packages: Prepare and contribute to Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs), FEED reports, detailed engineering packages, Construction Work Packages (CWPs), and engineering/construction scopes of work.
Technical Standards: Establish calculation methodologies, design approaches, and documentation standards for civil/structural engineering deliverables.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure engineering designs and deliverables comply with applicable client requirements, HOCS procedures, regulatory requirements, industry codes, and standards.
Discipline Leadership & Coordination
Discipline Management: Take accountability for civil/structural scope, budget, schedule, deliverables, and discipline performance.
Technical Quality: Review and approve civil/structural engineering work prepared by other engineers and designers and maintain overall discipline quality.
Engineer of Record: Provide qualified engineering review and authentication of applicable civil/structural deliverables as required.
Mentorship: Mentor, train,
and provide technical guidance to intermediate and junior engineers, EITs, designers, and technicians.
Continuous Improvement: Share technical knowledge and support the development and implementation of effective engineering practices and standards.
Project Execution & Client Interface
Client Interface: Work directly with clients and Project Managers to understand project requirements, resolve technical issues, and maintain a high level of client satisfaction.
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: Coordinate with Process, Piping, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and other disciplines to ensure effective design integration and project execution.
Project Controls: Manage discipline activities within approved budgets, schedules, and man-hour targets while proactively addressing risks and execution challenges.
Proposal Support: Support the preparation of proposals, engineering estimates, execution strategies, technical studies, and scopes of work.
Site Support: Visit remote project sites as required for field verification, data collection, engineering assessments, constructability reviews, and technical support.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Professional Registration
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
Professional Registration: Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
Engineer of Record: Must be qualified and able to authenticate civil/structural engineering documents as the Engineer of Record, where required.
Work Authorization: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Experience
Industry Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience, preferably with engineering consulting or EPC organizations supporting the industrial and Oil & Gas sectors.
Project Leadership:
Demonstrated experience leading civil/structural engineering scopes on projects of varying size and complexity.
Brownfield Experience : Strong experience with brownfield Oil & Gas facility modifications and integration is preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of applicable civil/structural engineering principles, industry codes and standards, design practices, and construction methods.
Technical Skills
Engineering Software: Strong competency with major civil/structural engineering analysis and design software.
Design Tools: Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD and engineering design tools.
Microsoft Office: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Communication: Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams.
Technical Judgment: Solid analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities with sound professional engineering judgment.
