School Meals Program Coordinator (On-Call)School Meals Program Coordinators play a vital role in the lives of children at our schools by assisting with the distribution of lunches during lunch time. Assignments are one hour a day working at either an elementary (Grades K‑5) or middle (Grades 6‑8) school.The role is part‑time and offers flexibility for those who enjoy working with school‑aged children.About The DistrictAdjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District No. 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in BC. The District operates in five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands, and acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish: T’Sou-ke Nation and Scia’new Nation and Nuu‑chah‑nulth: Pacheedaht Nation. We also recognize that some of our schools reside on the traditional territory of Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation. The District employs over 2,000 educators and support staff and serves over 13,000 students. The District’s Strategic Plan focuses on learning, engagement and growth.What We OfferA starting wage of $27.25 per hour, five hours per week, 10 months per year (September 1 to June 30).Opportunities for other positions at the District such as custodial, noon‑hour or bus supervision assistant, crossing guards and more.Once You Are Permanent You Will GetPaid vacation during Winter and Spring Break (as per the CUPE Local 459 Collective Agreement).Two (2) career development days and one (1) self‑directed professional development day per school year,



plus access to additional funds for further professional development such as course fees.ResponsibilitiesProvide feedback on upcoming menus to the caterer and administration on a regular basis.Ensure menus are printed and distributed to all students.Oversee the collection of monies from the students and balance with receipts.Determine the monthly parental contributions, prepare monthly consent forms for distribution to students.Keep track of lunch program participants.Assist in duties related to the supervision of students.Help with the meal service and clean up of the serving area after each meal.Monitor the amount of food consumed as well as students’ likes and dislikes.Ensure the correct number of servings required is communicated to the caterer for ordering.Report the progress of the program to the administrator and Community LINK Coordinator and prepare input for the year‑end report for the Ministry.QualificationsSecondary school graduation.Up to three months of related experience working with school‑aged children.Holds (or willing to obtain) a valid FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate.Willing to authorize the completion of a required Criminal Record Check.Completion of secondary school, coupled with successful completion of the Foodsafe Basic Level Course or willingness to undertake the course.A demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with young students, teachers and other adults.An ability to keep a simple set of books.Appreciation of the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents and teachers.Reporting & SupervisionResponsible to: School Administrative Officers and Community LINK Coordinator.Supervises: N/A.Job Goal: To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning school lunch program.School District No. 62 (Sooke) is an equal‑opportunity employer that is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace that is free of discrimination and harassment.
