As a vital member of GFL’s EHS team, the Regional EHS Specialist plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety excellence across the province. You’ll support multiple locations throughout British Columbia, providing hands‑on safety expertise, conducting audits and inspections, training and instruction and guiding operational teams to meet and exceed health, safety, and environmental standards. This position requires routine travel to various locations across BC, while remaining anchored in the Lower Mainland.

Key Responsibilities Conduct onsite inspections and internal audits throughout BC to evaluate safe work practices.
Perform internal audits of work practices and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
Support external audits and promote compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Collaborate with regional teams to maintain high safety standards and excellence across all locations.
Lead and assist investigations, reporting, and corrective action planning for incidents across the province.
Deliver safety training and new employee orientations at various sites as required.
Driver & Equipment Training: Deliver structured, hands‑on field instruction and safe operating training for workers operating commercial trucks and heavy equipment.
Competency Evaluations: Conduct driver ride‑alongs, practical equipment operator evaluations, and ongoing safety coaching across BC facilities.
Act as a liaison between the Regional EHS team and operations throughout BC.
Provide guidance on occupational injury management and return‑to‑work programs across multiple regions with the support of the Regional EHS Manager.
Support monthly safety communications and provincial safety campaigns.
Must have personal, reliable transportation to travel regularly to support locations across BC.
Ensure record keeping for regional EHS statistics and trending.




Support NSC compliance and functions as required.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
Qualifications Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety.
CRSP, CSO, or MSO designation preferred.
Direct experience operating commercial trucks will be considered an asset (e.g., roll‑off, front‑load) and/or heavy equipment (e.g., wheel loaders, excavators, compactors).
Demonstrated ability to instruct, coach, and evaluate workers on truck and heavy equipment operating procedures.
Formal Train‑the‑Trainer certification in heavy equipment or commercial driver training preferred (employer is willing to provide certification for otherwise qualified candidates).
Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Knowledge of BC‑specific health and safety legislation.
Knowledge of National Safety Code (NSC) regulations.
Exceptional communication and time management skills.
Self‑starter with a solid ability to work independently across diverse sites.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly within British Columbia.
