Personal Support Worker (Mixed Shift) - Temporary part time for approximately 6 months, with possibility of extensionThe Personal Support Worker (PSW) will provide personal care to assist clients in their daily activities and personal hygiene. The PSW will support the clients' physical, social and emotional needs in a safe manner, in accordance with the organization's resident-centred approach, complying with relevant government standards, residents' rights and the organizations mission and philosophy.Responsibilities:Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition; provides input into the care plan and implements the guidelines in the planAdheres to the legislation, standards, policies and procedures of the LTC Home Delivers personal care to promote comfort and safety for the resident during activities of daily living in accordance with the standards of resident care set out in the Nursing ManualsProvides cognitive, social, emotional support to residents.Promotes independence of resident in his/her activities of daily living. Observes and respects resident's individual rights and choices. Acknowledges the resident's need for dignity and PrivacyAssists the resident in the proper use and care of adaptive/prosthetic devices Maintains effective communication and good relationship with residents, families and significant othersParticipates as a team member in co-operation with other departments to ensure quality care of the resident. Provides input into the plan of careDocuments accurately and legibly on flow sheets and daily records reflecting each resident's condition,
care and specific needsAssists in the care of resident's personal belongingsComplies with risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection prevention and control, occupational health and safety, incident and falls, etc. Assists in the care of LTC home equipment by regular cleaning and inspection and prompt reporting of defects.Provides job shadowing or mentorship to members of the health care team or students, as assignedPractices nursing restorative care to complement and supplement rehabilitation careKeeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the fieldOther duties as assignedQualificationsGraduate of an approved Personal Support Worker course in Ontario, or equivalentExperience in long term care setting an assetCurrent CPR CertificateRegistration with Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) preferred.Resident-centred care focus with strong customer service and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and time manageAbility to work independently as well as be an active, positive team playerBehavioural management training (Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA), U-First, CPI) an assetComputer literacy (Point Click Care, MS Office).
Basic knowledge of Workday an asset.Ability to speak and converse in Chinese an assetAdditional InformationWorking Conditions:Considerable standing, walking, lifting and bendingExposure to all resident care elements through regular resident contact.Ability to work day, evening and night shifts, including weekends and short shifts.
