Job Summary
Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics perform major and minorrepairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of vehicles, vehicle attachmentsand material handling equipment. This position requires you to work nightshifts and partial weekends, as required.
Working Conditions
Ability to work irregular shifts, includingevenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, performingoverhead work, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg).
Shop environment, ability to work inside shopand outside shop in all weather conditions.
Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet.
Comply with safe work procedures and policies.
Major Responsibilities
Inspect,
service andmaintain Intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles and equipment, inaccordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil orrepairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.
Diagnose diesel / gasengine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and making requiredrepairs.Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment,lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, andoperate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.
Use measuring devicesand understanding visual displays.
Repair various yardequipment machinery.
Prepare inspection,maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms inaccordance with established procedures.
Requirements
High School diploma orequivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
Diploma of VocationalStudies in Heavy Duty Mechanic.
Diesel mechanic,Automotive, Truck & Coach, Hydraulics experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Must be at least 18years of age
Technical knowledge ofdiesel mechanics.Qualified 310T/421A mechanics.
Possess your own toolssufficient to perform repairs and service on small equipment. Toolsspecific to the railway are supplied by the company.
Must meet all medicalfitness for duty requirements for the position, including requirements forSafety
Assets
Experiencetroubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.
Commercial Transport orpreferably Heavy Duty Working experience.
Welding skills.
Relevant work experiencein similar working conditions or regulatory/safety setting.
Post-secondaryeducation.
Basic computer skills.
