Support educational growth at Harvey Redsky Memorial School as a Cultural Land Based Assistant. This role focuses on cultural knowledge transfer, safety, and cooperation with Elders in Shoal Lake No. 40 First Nation.
This Land Based Assistant position emphasizes traditional practices and cultural competency within the educational framework. You will help acquire resources, connect with Elders and knowledge keepers, and promote Indigenous languages through various initiatives. The aim is to create an workplace encouraging cultural awareness and retention.
Key Responsibilities:
• Acquire and maintain traditional resources and language materials
• Assist in providing traditional knowledge in harvesting and trapping
• Promote Indigenous languages relevant to the environment
• Liaise with Elders to facilitate cultural knowledge transmission
• Create opportunities for Traditional Arts & Crafts projects
Requirements:
• Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and history
• Minimum three years of experience in an Indigenous organization
• Exceptional understanding of Indigenous contemporary issues
• Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies preferred
• Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check required
