Reporting to the Production Superintendent, the Production Supervisor is responsible to ensure department production, quality, efficiency and safety goals are met by leading, coordinating and directing manufacturing employees (unionized environment).
Role Responsibilities
Manage the departmental manufacturing process according to the Manufacturing Instructions and Design Drawings
Coordinate work in process with other Production Supervisors to ensure internal customer requirements are met, and smooth production flow is achieved without interruptions
Meet all departmental goals in relation to output, quality, and on-time delivery of product
Attend production and EQP meetings
Ensure equipment is being kept in good condition
Order departmental supplies, as needed
Perform supervisor critical inspections and ensure corrective actions are performed
Communicate milestone dates to Contract Administration & Quality Assurance to schedule inspections
Understand the product and processes in the assigned and surrounding departments
Recommend improvements in manufacturing methods
Work with External Customers as required for inspections and repairs
Communicate the importance of quality to staff, teach them to be quality minded and follow all established procedures
Verify and record hours worked by staff in order to track attendance and provide information to payroll for processing
Supervise employees within the department, adhering to labour contract and company policy
Participate in the recruitment and onboarding process
Oversee training & development and conduct assessment of employee performance.
Discipline and counsel employees, as necessary
Develop a complete comprehension of labour contract to ensure that all decisions and actions are in compliance. Enforce company policies and rules consistently
Perform according to company’s certified ISO standards
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements
Minimum grade 12 diploma. Post-secondary education would be an asset
5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
3+ years of leadership experience
Experience working in a unionized environment would be an asset
Ability to lead and work closely with diverse group of employees
Ability to work effectively in time-constrained situations and under pressing deadlines
Ability to communicate and work with all levels of the organization and external customers in a constructive manner
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to lead continual improvement efforts
Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and bill of material including terms and abbreviations
Availability to work a permanent evening or permanent midnight shift is required
