We're looking for a dependable Sandblaster to join our Trailer Shop. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in producing quality results, and is committed to maintaining a secure and efficient work environment.
This is a shared sandblasting position. You'll spend approximately 50-75% of your time sandblasting , with the remaining time supporting the Assembly Department or assisting with other production tasks as needed.
What You'll Do
As a Paint Technician (Sandblaster), you'll help prepare steel components for painting while ensuring every product meets Norstar's quality standards.
Your responsibilities include:
Operate sandblasting equipment safely and efficiently within a blast booth
Prepare metal and steel components for painting through cleaning, masking, and surface preparation
Perform sandblasting in an unheated blast booth throughout the year
Read and follow production drawings, work orders, and written instructions
Conduct quality inspections to ensure work meets company standards
Maintain sandblasting equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns
Complete repairs, modifications, and retrofits as required
Assist with production tracking and documentation
Support and help train junior team members when needed
Work in the Assembly Department or assist with other production tasks when not sandblasting
Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times
What We're Looking For
Previous sandblasting experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is an asset
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Ability to read and follow production drawings and work instructions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize work in a rapid-paced manufacturing environment
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and comfortable working at heights when required
Willingness to work overtime as needed
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 6 to 12 months, you will:
Consistently prepare components that meet Norstar's quality standards for painting.
Demonstrate safe operation of sandblasting equipment while following all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
Work confidently from production drawings and work instructions with minimal supervision.
Successfully support both sandblasting and assembly operations based on production needs.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while contributing positively to the production team.
Become a dependable team member known for quality workmanship, reliability, and flexibility.
