Candidates are recruited through the Meteorologist Occupational Training Program (MOTP) as Intern Meteorologists (MT-01) or directly as Developmental (MT-02) and Operational (MT-03) meteorologists with a minimum of 2–3 years operational experience. This process is targeted at direct entry at the MT-02 and MT-03 level only.MT-02 candidates will be considered for operational positions in a prediction centre. MT-03 candidates should state their preference for an operational role or a research & development role in their cover letter.Essential QualificationsEducationGraduation with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology, physics or mathematics (or an equivalent science). Minimum of 10 courses in physics and mathematics, including dynamic meteorology, thermodynamic meteorology, synoptic meteorology,



and three additional meteorology‑related courses.Experience – MT-02Approximately two years of full‑time experience (within the last ten years) as an operational meteorologist with a national or regional meteorological service or a private company.Primary responsibilities must include: analysing meteorological data; diagnosing meteorological patterns and trends; creating and issuing a variety of weather forecasts.Excludes roles such as meteorological observer, meteorological technician, research and development meteorologist, volunteer work, or seasonal work.Experience – MT-03Approximately three years of full‑time experience (within the last ten years) as an operational meteorologist with a national or regional meteorological service or a private company.Primary responsibilities must include: analysing meteorological data; diagnosing meteorological patterns and trends; creating and issuing a variety of weather forecasts.Excludes roles such as meteorological observer, meteorological technician, research and development meteorologist, volunteer work, or seasonal work.Additional RequirementsLanguageEnglish essential across Canada.French essential in Montreal and Dorval.
