Position Summary

Skillcity Institute is seeking a resourceful and relationship-focused Youth Outreach & Engagement Facilitator to support the recruitment, engagement and ongoing participation of youth and young adults in Skillcity programs, with a primary focus on the STEMCEL Talent Incubator – Transition to Adulthood Mentoring Program.

The Facilitator will build relationships with young people, community organizations, referral partners and youth-serving professionals to connect eligible participants with mentoring, life-skills, social connection and career-development opportunities. This role requires someone who is comfortable working in the community, following up consistently and building trust with young people who may face barriers to accessing or remaining engaged in programs.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct community-based outreach to identify, connect with and engage youth and young adults.
- Build and maintain relationships with youth-serving organizations, community agencies, schools, transition services and other referral partners.
- Promote Skillcity programs through outreach visits, presentations, community events and direct engagement with prospective participants.
- Support participant recruitment, registration, intake and onboarding.
- Follow up with prospective participants and provide reminders and practical information to support attendance.
- Build positive, consistent and respectful relationships with participating youth.
- Identify barriers affecting participation and work with participants and the program team to support continued engagement.
- Re-engage participants who have missed activities or become disconnected from the program.
- Connect participants with appropriate community resources and services when needs fall outside Skillcity's program scope.
- Maintain accurate outreach, referral, registration, attendance and participant engagement records.




- Gather youth feedback and communicate emerging interests, needs and barriers to the program team.
- Work closely with program facilitators to ensure activities are responsive to participant needs and interests.
- Represent Skillcity professionally at community meetings, outreach events and networking opportunities.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality, professional boundaries and safeguarding practices when working with young people.

Qualifications

- Diploma, degree or relevant experience in child and youth care, social work, community development, human services, psychology, education, career development or a related field.
- Experience working with youth or young adults, particularly those who may experience barriers to participation.
- Solid outreach, communication, relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable initiating conversations with young people, community organizations and professionals.
- Strong organization, follow-up and documentation skills.
- Understanding of strengths-based, trauma-informed and youth-centered approaches.
- Ability to work independently in community settings while collaborating effectively with a program team.
- Sound judgement and ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion and culturally responsive practice.
- A satisfactory Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check, is required or must be obtained.

Assets

- Experience supporting youth in care,



transitioning from care or with previous involvement in government care.
- Knowledge of Alberta's youth-serving, Child Intervention and transition-to-adulthood service systems.
- Existing relationships with youth-serving organizations and community agencies in Edmonton.
- Experience in youth outreach, community navigation, mentoring, employment services, housing supports or transition-to-independence programming.
- Experience supporting Indigenous, racialized, newcomer, low-income, neurodivergent or otherwise equity-deserving youth.
- Mental Health First Aid, trauma-informed practice, Indigenous cultural awareness or related training.
- Valid Alberta driver's licence and access to reliable transportation for community outreach.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is considered an asset.

What Success Looks Like Young people who may not normally find or approach a program like STEMCEL are successfully connected to opportunities, feel welcomed when they arrive and have reasons to keep coming back. Referral partners understand who Skillcity serves and confidently connect eligible young people to the program. Outreach results in meaningful participation, not simply names on a contact list, and participants experience consistent, respectful support that strengthens their connection to skills, mentors, community and future opportunities.
