YOUTH LIFE PROMOTION COORDINATOR

Full-Time Position ($28/hr)

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Parry Sound Friendship Centre is currently accepting resumes for a Full-time position for a Youth Life Promotion Coordinator. The purpose of the Youth Life Promotion Coordinator is to increase engagement and ensure the effective delivery of the program such that the needs of urban indigenous youth are met in a skilled/effective/sensitive/efficient and culturally sensitive manner, that further supports a positive self-identity, capacity for self-determination, leadership skills and social responsibility for each participant.

QUALIFICATIONS

· University degree or college diploma in education, leadership, physical health or equivalent life experience.

· Demonstrated knowledge of indigenous teachings and culture and a willingness to promote this way of life.

· Candidate will have minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience with children and youth.

· Previous work experience with indigenous youth, First Nation communities and most preferred urban indigenous organizations like a Friendship Centre.

· Strong knowledge and awareness of indigenous cultures, histories and the impacts of colonization with a particular emphasis on child, family and community well-being (eg. Intergenerational trauma and trauma,



child welfare, family violence, youth and the criminal justice system.

· Must possess good written and oral communication skills.

· Must possess skills and experience in presenting educational workshops and facilitating groupos, in particular

Youth.

· Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of children and youth.

· Must have excellent computer skills.

· Must have the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

· Must have the ability to work as a team player and be capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship

Centre programs.

· Must possess current First-Aid/CPR certification or be willing to be certified

· A explicit Criminal Reference Check (CRC), Vulnerable Sector, will be a condition of the employment offer.
