Join a dedicated team focused on promoting well‑being and proactive risk management.The OpportunityAs a member of the Safety and Community Services team reporting to the Manager, Security and Emergency Services (SES), this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining institutional emergency preparedness and response plans. This includes coordination and support of activities related to SAIT’s Emergency Response Plan and associated plans encompassing business continuity and post‑incident recovery.Major responsibilities include assessing the needs for institutional emergency response and business continuity solutions, determining workable emergency preparedness and planning approaches, implementing effective system components, reviewing and assessing the effectiveness of business continuity and emergency preparedness systems in place, reporting on the status of initiatives, maintaining operational readiness, updating and maintaining policies, plans, and documents related to emergency management, developing and administering training for members of the SAIT community, and preparing reports and recommendations for the Safety and Community Services leadership team.The incumbent also acts as a resource for all SAIT schools and departments and builds partnerships with government agencies, other post‑secondary emergency management professionals, and the community at large.This position participates in a rotating schedule for after‑hours emergency on‑call support and may be required to adjust the schedule to provide subject‑matter expertise and support during significant emergencies on campus.ResponsibilitiesMaintain SAIT’s institutional Emergency Response Plan and operationalise all plan elements, including the SAIT emergency notification system and tools.Develop institutional business continuity plans and provide direct support, collaboration, and oversight to schools, departments, and service partners.Ensure readiness and full operational functionality of primary and alternate Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) sites for use during any emergency, training exercises, or drills.Provide direct response to emergencies on all SAIT campuses and participate as a member of the Emergency Management Response Team (EMRT).Provide operational support to the EMRT and the EOC director when the Emergency Response Plan is activated.Ensure emergency response supplies are inventoried, maintained,



and deployed when necessary.Support day‑to‑day Campus Security operations related to emergency preparedness and response.Develop and maintain SAIT’s emergency evacuation and fire warden program, recruiting, training, drills, and maintaining program records.Oversee SAIT’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program, maintaining up‑to‑date records and ensuring operational readiness of AEDs on campus.Liaise with the Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), and other regulatory bodies to build strong working relationships with partner organisations.Participate in internal SAIT committees, providing expertise and support in all facets of emergency preparedness, response, and business continuity.Contribute to risk management strategies, including pandemic preparedness, business continuity, and the SAIT Travel Risk Advisory Program.Assist in delivery of SAIT’s mass notification system (SAITALERT).Participate in the development of an institutional emergency communications protocol and oversee drills and tests of the same.Coordinate and administer training related to all aspects of the SAIT emergency management programme, including building captain and fire warden programmes, general emergency awareness, the Incident Command System, first response, EOC operations, and emergency communications.Coordinate incident‑command‑system role‑specific training, develop and facilitate exercises (tabletop and functional), maintain the functionality of the EOC, and conduct after‑action reviews and post‑incident/exercise debriefs to improve and enhance SAIT’s emergency response.Develop and deliver education and training sessions related to all aspects of SAIT’s emergency management programme to promote understanding and ensure appropriate preparation and response.Support the development and maintenance of site‑specific emergency response plans on SAIT’s satellite campuses.Review current research and keep up‑to‑date on new trends, issues, practices, and policies regarding emergency management.Participate in sensitive investigations when necessary.Review internal policies and procedures to find opportunities to improve emergency preparedness and response on campus.Review and analyse trends in emergency events; track, monitor, document,



and assess relevant incidents to identify and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.Pursue engagement opportunities with the larger SAIT community to promote emergency preparedness.Education, Qualifications & ExperienceDiploma or degree in Emergency Management or a related field (required).Graduate degree or diploma in a related or complementary discipline (asset).Recognition of emergency‑management, business‑continuity, or risk‑management certification (asset).Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience and responsibility in fields directly related to emergency management or business continuity.Relevant work experience in emergency management, disaster response, business continuity, emergency social services, and/or crisis communications; experience with and knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) and Alberta Incident Management System (AIMS).Experience in implementing emergency and business‑continuity programmes within an academic and research environment, government organisation, or industry.Up‑to‑date working knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation, including the AB Emergency Management Act, AB Local Authority Emergency Management Regulation, City of Calgary Emergency Management Bylaw, and the Alberta Fire Code.Identification, adaptation, and implementation of best practices.Experience in developing and delivering presentations and leading and conducting training courses.Superior written and oral communication skills.Expertise in all aspects of emergency management and business continuity, including performance monitoring and reporting, corrective actions management, quality assurance and auditing.Project management experience is desirable.Excellent computer skills are essential.Salary range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year# of positions: 1Hours per Week: 37.5Posting closing date: 4PM on May 29th, 2026Posted by SAITWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support certain parts of the hiring process such as reviewing applications, analysing resumes or assessing responses.
