The Opportunity:
We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer / Structural Technologist to join a growing engineering team in Niagara Falls. This role is primarily focused on structural design, with some architectural design responsibilities to support project coordination and permitting requirements.
You will be responsible for preparing structural calculations, drawings, and documentation, while also assisting with basic architectural layouts and plans where required. Projects will span residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities throughout Southern Ontario.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Prepare structural design drawings, calculations, and documentation using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Assist with light architectural design work, including basic floor plans, elevations, sections, layouts, and architectural drawings required for permitting and coordination.
- Prepare schematic drawings and design packages for review by engineers.
- Review and apply the Ontario Building Code, including Part 3 for larger buildings and Part 9 for smaller and residential buildings.
- Prepare structural bid and construction drawings for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.
- Manage projects from conception through completion, including coordinating with contractors,
architects, and municipal officials.
- Support building permit submissions and related documentation.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, architects, and sub-consultants.
- Assist with site visits, field reviews, and contract administration.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
- A diploma or degree in Structural Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Technology.
- 1-5 years of experience in structural design; recent graduates with strong technical knowledge will also be considered.
- Solid proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- Solid understanding of structural systems, including steel, concrete, and wood.
- Working knowledge of basic architectural drawings and layouts.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- OACETT membership or eligibility.
- BCIN certification is considered an asset.
Compensation Range: $65,000 - $ 85,000
