We provide:Collective agreement and policy interpretation.Collective bargaining.Advice and guidance on the grievance procedure.Support to investigations and arbitrations.About the RoleThe Director, Labour and Employee Relations provides leadership and directs a team of Labour Relations professionals who provide effective consultation on and resolution of employee and labour relations inquiries and issues from academic and administrative leaders, and Strategic Business Partners. The Director works with leaders, Human Resources, and Faculty Relations to promote fair treatment and the consistent and lawful application of University employment and labour related policies, and guiding legislation. The Director is also the Chief Negotiator for collective bargaining for all agreements not including the faculty association (SFUFA), instructs external legal counsel,
and serves as the University’s advocate in arbitrations and mediations.QualificationsUndergrad degree in Human Resources with ten years of experience in a complex public sector higher education environment, including direct experience as Chief Negotiator in collective bargaining and the interpretation and administration of collective agreements and related legislation, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Excellent knowledge of employment practices in the public sector.Excellent planning skills.Excellent leadership skills.Excellent interest based negotiation skills.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.What We OfferAt SFU, our goal is to ensure our people are valued and supported by promoting a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development, as well as a safe and respectful workplace.
