Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fishing Master 4 (FM4) – Second Hand / Relief Captain to join our dedicated fishing fleet. In this vital role, you will serve as a seasoned leader responsible for the safe and efficient operation of fishing vessels, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. As a Relief Captain, you will step into the role of captain when needed, demonstrating flexibility and expertise in managing all aspects of vessel navigation, crew coordination, and fishing operations. Your mechanical knowledge and rigging skills will be essential in maintaining vessel integrity and troubleshooting technical issues promptly. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead with energy, drive operational excellence, and contribute to sustainable fishing practices.

Duties

- Assume command of fishing vessels during assigned shifts or relief periods, ensuring safe navigation and adherence to all maritime regulations
- Oversee daily fishing operations, including setting gear, harvesting catches, and managing onboard processes efficiently
- Conduct thorough vessel inspections focusing on rigging systems and mechanical components to identify maintenance needs or potential hazards
- Perform troubleshooting and basic repairs related to rigging and mechanical systems to minimize downtime during fishing trips




- Coordinate with crew members to ensure safety protocols are followed and operational tasks are completed effectively
- Maintain accurate logs of vessel activities, catch reports, safety inspections, and maintenance records
- Support vessel maintenance schedules by identifying mechanical issues early and assisting with repairs or liaising with technical specialists

Experience

- Proven experience as a Fishing Master 4 (FM4) or equivalent senior fishing vessel officer with a strong track record of secure vessel operation
- Demonstrated expertise in rigging techniques relevant to commercial fishing vessels
- Solid mechanical knowledge of marine engines, hydraulic systems, winches, and other vessel equipment
- Previous experience serving as a relief captain or in a leadership role overseeing crew and operations on fishing vessels
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently under pressure to ensure continuous operations
- Strong understanding of maritime safety standards, environmental regulations, and sustainable fishing practices
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with crew members and external stakeholders

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
