The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Performance and working under the guidance of the Supervisor, Building Mechanical and Airport Operational Systems, the Facilities Maintenance Generalist performs planned and unplanned maintenance activities that support safe, reliable, and effective airport operations.
This hands-on role focuses on the repair, restoration, and upkeep of base building elements across the WAA campus. Responsibilities include maintaining architectural finishes and interior building systems such as drywall, ceilings, flooring, walls, doors, millwork, glazing, and related components.
The Facilities Maintenance Generalist responds to work orders and operational maintenance needs, assesses damage, completes repairs, and takes appropriate temporary or permanent action to ensure areas remain safe and operational. Working closely with other Facilities Maintenance trades, the successful candidate will help coordinate repairs and restore finishes following electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical work.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform drywall installation and repair, patching, sanding, painting, surface preparation, and other general finishing work
- Install, repair, and replace ceiling systems, including T-bar, acoustic tiles, access panels, and specialty ceiling assemblies
- Repair and replace flooring materials, including carpet tile, broadloom carpet, ceramic and porcelain tile, vinyl tile, sheet flooring, bases, transitions,
and minor subfloor components
- Inspect and complete repairs to walls, partitions, doors, hardware, millwork, trims, glazing, architectural metal finishes, and other base building elements
- Apply sealants, firestopping products, vapour barriers, weatherstripping, and thermal insulation to support building envelope performance and maintain fire separations
- Safely erect and use scaffolding, work platforms, lifts, barricades, signage, and other access equipment
- Respond to CMMS work orders and OneCall tickets, assess damage, complete repairs, and implement temporary or permanent make-safe measures as required
- Coordinate work with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, millwright, and other maintenance trades to support proper sequencing and restoration of finishes
- Maintain workshops, tools, materials, and trade-related equipment, including monitoring and replenishing inventory
- Complete work orders, maintenance records, parts requests, and other required documentation accurately and on time
- Participate in safety briefings, required training, and ongoing professional development, including training related to airside and groundside work, confined spaces, hazardous materials, and WHMIS
- Provide technical knowledge and provide support to Facilities Maintenance team members, as required
Selection Criteria include:
- Significant hands-on experience in carpentry, painting, interior systems, or a related area of building maintenance
- Minimum five years of experience maintaining large commercial or institutional facilities
- Strong working knowledge of interior building systems, including drywall, ceilings, flooring, tile, doors, hardware, and architectural finishes
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair, install, and restore building components in active operational environments
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications,
and technical documentation
- Proficiency in the secure use of hand and power tools, lifts, scaffolding, and related maintenance equipment
- Experience using, or a basic working knowledge of, a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Knowledge of applicable safety practices, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined space procedures, and WHMIS
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DA/AVOP
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting or moving materials weighing up to 25 kg/55 lb.
- Ability to work safely at heights, in confined or restricted spaces, and in varying environmental conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when required
