The Rotational Technical Intern will gain hands-on experience across several areas of the company, including Production, Engineering, Service and Sales. The intern will rotate between departments, supporting day-to-day activities and developing a broad understanding of how the company designs, manufactures, supports and sells its products.
This position is intended for a student or recent graduate from a technical program who is interested in gaining practical experience in an industrial technology and manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production
- Assist with product assembly, testing, inspection and packaging.
- Review and follow production schedules, work instructions and work orders.
- Install components and sub-assemblies on finished products.
- Perform basic quality-control checks to ensure products meet specifications.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Keep work areas clean and organized in accordance with lean manufacturing practices.
- Identify and report quality concerns or opportunities for process improvement.
- Help maintain drawings, bills of materials, work instructions and other production records.
Engineering
- Assist with product testing, prototyping and design-verification activities.
- Support the preparation of test setups, procedures and technical documentation.
- Record, organize and summarize test results.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical, electronic and mechanical systems.
- Provide feedback on product assembly, test-ability and potential design improvements.
Service and Technical Support
- Assist with the inspection, testing and troubleshooting of returned products.
- Support product repairs, firmware updates and functional testing under supervision.
- Help document service findings, corrective actions and recurring product issues.
- Assist with preparing technical-support information for customers and internal teams.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
Sales and Customer Support
- Learn about the company’s products, applications and target industries.
- Assist with preparing product information, quotations, presentations and demonstration equipment.
- Travel to customer sites as required to support sales activities, product demonstrations, customer meetings and business-development initiatives.
- Support customer follow-ups and the organization of sales-related information.
- Help research potential customers, applications and market opportunities.
- Attend internal sales meetings and customer discussions when appropriate.
- Communicate technical product information clearly and professionally.
General Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with employees across all departments.
- Follow company safety procedures and quality standards.
- Complete assigned tasks accurately and within established timelines.
- Ask questions and seek clarification before undertaking unfamiliar tasks.
- Provide updates to supervisors and prepare a summary of activities completed during each departmental rotation.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn and openness to feedback.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program in Mechatronics, Melectronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, instrumentation, business, technical sales or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical, electronic or mechanical systems is preferred.
- Comfortable using basic hand and assembly tools, such as power drills, wrenches, screwdrivers and wire strippers.
- Ability to understand and follow work instructions, drawings and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude, professional conduct and willingness to learn about different areas of the business.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, engineering, technical service or sales would be considered an asset but is not required.
Pay: $25.00-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
