Job Description
The Health & Safety Coordinator at Apex Security is responsible for supporting, maintaining, auditing, and continuously improving the company’s health and safety program.
This position works closely with management, supervisors, employees, and the Joint Health and Safety Committee to ensure that health and safety policies, training, inspections, investigations, corrective actions, and documentation are maintained and communicated throughout the organization.
The Health & Safety Coordinator will also support Apex Security’s COR/SECOR requirements and must have the qualifications necessary to conduct or support ACSA safety audits.
The position plays an important role in strengthening Apex Security’s safety culture by ensuring employees understand their responsibilities, hazards are identified and addressed, corrective actions are followed through, and health and safety requirements are consistently applied across company operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety Program Management
- Update and maintain the Apex Security Health and Safety Manual as required.
- Conduct regular reviews of all health and safety policies, procedures, forms, and supporting documents.
- Recommend and implement updates where deficiencies, operational changes, or new requirements are identified.
- Ensure current health and safety information is properly communicated and accessible to employees.
- Support the continued development and improvement of Apex Security’s overall health and safety management system.
- Support and maintain Apex Security’s COR/SECOR program and audit readiness.
Orientation, Training & Competency
- Provide health and safety orientation to new employees.
- Ensure employee orientation is reviewed annually as a refresher.
- Conduct or coordinate employee competency assessments and ensure they are properly documented.
- Maintain accurate employee health and safety training records.
- Maintain records for individuals authorized or trained to conduct workplace investigations, including applicable course materials and certifications.
- Identify training gaps and coordinate additional training where required.
Contractor & Compliance Management
- Monitor, maintain, and update Apex Security’s ISN and ComplyWorks accounts.
- Ensure required safety documentation, statistics, policies, certifications, and company information remain current on contractor-management platforms.
- Follow up on deficiencies or outstanding compliance requirements.
Inspections & Corrective Actions
- Conduct regular workplace, site, office, and operational safety inspections.
- Document identified hazards, deficiencies, and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a system for assigning, tracking, and closing corrective actions identified during inspections, investigations, meetings, or employee reports.
- Follow up with responsible departments or supervisors to ensure corrective actions are completed within appropriate timelines.
- Communicate significant safety findings and corrective actions to management and employees where appropriate.
Incident Investigations
- Participate in workplace incident, injury, near-miss, property-damage, and other health and safety investigations.
- Assist with identifying root causes and contributing factors.
- Ensure investigation documentation is completed and maintained.
- Track resulting corrective actions and verify completion.
- Support management and supervisors in ensuring investigations are completed consistently and appropriately.
Safety Meetings & Employee Communication
- Attend and conduct regular safety meetings, including weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly meetings, depending on operational requirements.
- Attend Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings quarterly or as scheduled.
- Prepare, maintain, and distribute meeting minutes.
- Communicate relevant meeting discussions and safety information company-wide so employees remain informed.
- Communicate safety findings, corrective actions, updated policies, procedures, trends, and lessons learned throughout the organization.
- Promote employee participation in health and safety initiatives and support the continued development of a strong safety culture.
Hazard Assessments
- Ensure employees are completing the required regular review of Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
- Monitor monthly FLHA review requirements and follow up on incomplete or outstanding documentation.
- Review hazard assessments for trends, recurring hazards, or opportunities for improvement.
Emergency Preparedness
- Fully implement and maintain the company’s Emergency Response Plan.
- Coordinate annual or bi-annual emergency drills as required.
- Maintain documentation and records for all emergency exercises and drills.
- Review drill results and recommend improvements to emergency procedures.
- Ensure employees understand emergency responsibilities and procedures.
Safety Equipment & Preventative Maintenance
- Inspect and restock first aid kits at company and operational locations.
- Coordinate and document annual fire extinguisher inspections.
- Further develop, implement, and track Apex Security’s preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain records for required inspections, servicing, maintenance, and corrective work.
- Follow up on overdue maintenance or identified equipment deficiencies.
Auditing & COR/SECOR
- Conduct or support internal health and safety audits as required.
- Maintain documentation required for ACSA COR/SECOR audits.
- Assist with preparation for external audits.
- Track audit findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Work with management to ensure identified audit deficiencies are corrected.
- Maintain Apex Security’s audit readiness throughout the year.
Reporting & Statistical Analysis
- Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
- Conduct statistical tracking and analysis of:
- Workplace incidents
- Injuries
- Near misses
- Inspections
- Corrective actions
- Training
- Hazard assessments
- Safety meetings
- Preventative maintenance
- Identify recurring trends and areas of concern.
- Prepare health and safety reports for management as required.
- Use safety data to recommend preventative actions and program improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Must be an ACSA Certified Auditor or be able to obtain and maintain ACSA Auditor certification.
- Experience with COR/SECOR auditing, internal audits, and preparation for external certification audits is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
- Strong organizational and record-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with management and employees.
- Strong follow-up skills and the ability to hold departments accountable for corrective actions.
- Ability to conduct inspections and participate in workplace investigations.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to analyze safety information and identify trends.
- Confidence delivering orientations, safety meetings, and employee communications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Experience with ISN, ComplyWorks, COR/SECOR programs, or contractor safety management systems is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in occupational health and safety, security, transportation, industrial operations, or a related environment is considered an asset.

Working Relationships
The Health & Safety Coordinator works closely with Apex Security management, Operations, supervisors, employees, the Joint Health and Safety Committee, technical and fleet personnel, and external safety or compliance organizations.
The position is expected to provide practical support to all departments while helping ensure that health and safety remains an active and ongoing part of Apex Security’s daily operations.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
