Job Summary

Join the Northern Rockies Child Development Association’s Early Learning and Care team as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE).

We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic educator who is passionate about creating safe, inclusive, engaging, and nurturing environments where young children can learn, explore, develop, and thrive.

Infant/Toddler Educator (ITE) certification is preferred; however, applicants holding a valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate will also be considered.

In this role, you will provide responsive, relationship-based care and early learning experiences that support each child’s social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and developmental needs. You will work collaboratively with children, families, coworkers, and community professionals to support positive outcomes for children during their critical early years.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan, develop, and implement age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences that support children’s cognitive, social-emotional, language, creative, and physical development.
- Create a warm, welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment that encourages curiosity, independence, exploration, and positive social interactions.
- Build responsive and respectful relationships with children and support their individual strengths, interests, cultures, abilities, and developmental needs.
- Observe and document children’s development, interests, participation, and progress.
- Communicate professionally and regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child’s experiences, development, routines, successes, and any identified concerns.
- Support the inclusion of children with diverse abilities and additional support needs by adapting activities, environments, and routines as appropriate.
- Collaborate with Supported Child Development professionals, consultants, specialists, and other community service providers when required.
- Support daily care routines, including meals and snacks, diapering and toileting, rest and nap periods, dressing, outdoor play, transitions, and personal care.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of children at all times.




- Follow established health, safety, sanitation, infection prevention, emergency, and childcare licensing requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor environments.
- Complete attendance, incident documentation, developmental records, communication logs, and other required program documentation accurately and on time.
- Use electronic systems and computer applications for attendance, documentation, family communication, planning, and other program requirements.
- Work collaboratively with coworkers and contribute positively to the overall operation of the Early Learning and Care program.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, emergency drills, and continuous quality-improvement activities.
- Follow NRCDA policies and procedures, confidentiality requirements, professional standards, and the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

- Valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification appropriate for working in a licensed childcare setting, or ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Ability to successfully complete all required criminal record and vulnerable sector screening requirements.
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate early childhood education practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain professional and respectful relationships with children, families, coworkers, and community partners.
- Dependable, reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy childcare environment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic systems for documentation, attendance, planning, and family communication.

Preferred

- Valid BC Infant and Toddler Educator (ITE) Certificate.
- Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, or children in a licensed childcare environment.
- Experience supporting children with diverse abilities or additional support needs.




- Knowledge of inclusive childcare practices and family-centred service delivery.
- Familiarity with the BC Early Learning Framework.
- Additional language skills, including French, are considered an asset.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to actively participate in the daily care and supervision of young children. Duties may include standing, walking, sitting on the floor, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, carrying, lifting, guiding, and assisting children throughout the day.

The successful applicant must be able to safely perform the physical requirements associated with childcare duties, including lifting, moving, carrying, or physically assisting children and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

The position includes active participation in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
