POSITION SUMMARY:

Effectively uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Provides Foot Care services to clients in the program. Supports Personal Support Workers with bathing program, as required. Provides clinical and administrative leadership and assists in co-ordinating activities during tour of duty with a multi-disciplinary team.

We are currently looking for a temporary full-time RPN to join our growing and dynamic CALTC program!

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs all duties in accordance with legislation, the Mission, Vision and Values Statement, Organizational and Management Philosophies and administrative policies and standards of St. Joseph's Villa.
- Develops, evaluates and modifies care plans for clients
- Provides nursing care, including counseling, instruction, and the coordination of client care in accordance with the FLTCA and applicable regulations
- Directs staff by assigning duties and establishing priorities
- Member of the interdisciplinary team and participates in all client reviews and family meetings as needed.
- Examines, measures, and records temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, serum levels of glucose, weight and heights, as required using equipment, i.e. blood pressure cuff, glucometer, stethoscope, bladder scanner
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatments as needed and outlined in plan of care, i.e. eye drops and application of ointments and creams [TB1]
- Ensures medications are properly stored, safe and secure
- Assesses condition and administers skin and wound treatments. Removes stitches and clips as ordered.
- Responsible for ensuring quality foot care services to clients in compliance with legislation and standards of best practice.




- Performing specialized nursing duties pertaining to foot care included nail care, ingrown toenail management, corn and callus debridement and reduction of thickened nails.
- Ensures that supplies meet designated inventories and are maintained in a safe and secure location
- Transcribes verbal or written physician's orders for medication or other treatment
- Performs delegated tasks within the scope of an RPN
- Prepares client for transfer or departure, contacting of appropriate organization (hospital, OHAH, office, etc.), and completion of required documentation
- Monitors and participates in the personal care of program clients, as required; for example: hygiene, feeding, transferring, ambulation, toileting
- Uses electric/hydraulic/manual equipment and lifting devices as per policy
- Prepares and maintains documentation, i.e. charts, records, and incident reports
- Involves client and family in planning of care; offers emotional support; answers questions from client and family
- Organizes and completes daily work activities and provide work direction to staff members, as assigned in order to complete assignments.
- Participates in educational opportunities and ad-hoc committees
- Mentors and/or orientates current staff members
- Administers first aid and emergency health measures (such as CPR) and emergency procedures, as required
- Contributes to Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
- Completes clinical assessments and documents electronically as per policy.




- Completes monthly tasks as assigned to ensure client program needs are met, and paperwork is up to date.
- Performs duties as assigned.
- All duties and responsibilities in accordance with the College of Nurses Practice Standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

FORMAL EDUCATION

- Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
- CPR (requested every other year for competency) is required
- Advanced Footcare and Diabetic Certification is preferred

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

- Excellent reading, writing, and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to think logically and use a creative approach to problem-solving;
- Must take initiative, and work well independently;
- Computer skills with use of PointClickCare and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work effectively as member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Minimum one-year experience in nursing and foot care

Pay: From $29.72 per hour

Experience:

- Long term care: 1 year (preferred)
- community care: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Registered Practical Nurse license (required)
