We are seeking an experienced Commercial Garage Door Technician to join our service and installation team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy-duty commercial overhead doors, industrial roll-up doors, high-speed doors, sectional doors, and loading dock equipment. You will work independently or with a helper in commercial, industrial, and warehouse environments while delivering high-quality service and adhering to strict site safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and service commercial sectional doors, rolling steel doors, fire doors, high-speed doors, and automated openers/operators.
- Install, inspect, and repair loading dock equipment, including dock levelers, seals, shelters, and vehicle restraints.
- Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and drop-testing on commercial door systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with commercial operators, control panels, and safety sensors.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and rigging equipment.
- Communicate effectively with commercial clients, facility managers, and site supervisors regarding repairs, maintenance schedules,
and equipment upgrades.
- Maintain complete and accurate service records, job site documentation, and safety logs.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience installing or servicing commercial garage doors, industrial doors, or loading dock equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitudes and working knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, motors, and control wiring.
- Experience operating aerial work platforms (scissor lift / boom lift certification is a plus).
- Proficiency in basic welding and metal fabrication (SMAW/MIG) for track, frame, and bracket repairs.
- Ability to read blueprints, architectural drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (ability to drive a service truck/van).
- Physical capabilities: comfortable working at heights, lifting up to 75+ lbs, and working in varied weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety regulations (OSHA / provincial safety standards).
