The role of the Registered Nurse involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Rotary Home. We provide inpatient psychiatric assessment services for patients who are up to the age of 16, who require brief periods of hospitalization, in an off-site, home-like unit, located at Maryvale.
The key responsibilities include providing therapeutic support and encouragement, as opposed to high-paced medical intervention. Nurses with an interest in mental health services and supporting young people will find our environment very rewarding.
The Registered Nurse provides care aligned with Maryvale’s core values and professional standards and actively contributes to maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Relief Registered Nurse
Job Description:
- Work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team consisting of child and youth care workers, social workers, psychiatrists, and consulting general practitioners.
- Be Responsible and accountable for the ongoing medical assessment and monitoring of the patient’s health status, identification of patient’s needs and the development of care plans to meet those needs.
- Administer and monitor medications.
- Provide nursing care as part of an off-site, acute care hospital setting. Shifts may be day, evenings, midnights weekdays and/or weekends and are generally 8 hours in length sometimes you may be asked to take a 12hr shift to help with coverage needs.

The wage range for this position is $39.27 – 46.37 per hour which in the Collective Agreement Schedule “A” Salary Grid, and exclusive of statutory withholdings and authorized deductions. Salary progression will follow the terms of the Collective Agreement.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Degree or diploma in nursing with registration as an RN-current Registered Nursing License with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Experience:
- Experience working with children and adolescents experiencing mental health, behavioural and emotional challenges is preferred.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary treatment is considered an asset.
- Previous hospital, community, primary health care, or psychiatric nursing experience are considered an asset but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic Life Support –current or willing to update upon hire
- Excellent decision-making, judgment, and independent thinking skills.
- A passion for supporting young people, and a desire to provide a consistent, caring adult presence in their lives
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to actively connect with patients, staff, and family members.
- Strong clinical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
· Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
