The Personal Support Worker (PSW) plays a vital role in enhancing the health, comfort, dignity, and quality of life of our residents. Through compassionate, person-centred care, PSWs support residents with their daily living activities while fostering independence, building meaningful relationships, and promoting physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

The Leamington Mennonite Home is a faith-based long-term care and retirement community founded in 1965 to support seniors in aging with dignity. Today, we serve approximately 273 residents across a range of housing and care options.

Qualifications

- Personal Support Worker Diploma from an accredited program.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience working in long-term care, retirement living, or healthcare is an asset.
- Knowledge of person-centred care principles, Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), and safe lifting and transfer practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Good physical health and fitness appropriate for the position, including standing, walking, lifting, transferring, bending, and repositioning residents.

Areas of Responsibility

- Provide safe, compassionate, and resident-centred care that promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life.
- Foster positive, professional relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, physicians, recreation, dietary, housekeeping, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Job Duties

- Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral hygiene, and other activities of daily living.
- Assist with safe transfers, positioning, mobility, and the use of mechanical lifts in accordance with training and policies.
- Support residents with meals and hydration while encouraging independence and dignity.
- Assist residents with restorative care and encourage them to maintain their highest level of independence.
- Observe and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioural status to the nursing team.
- Provide companionship and engage residents in meaningful conversation and daily interactions.
- Encourage residents to participate in recreation, exercise, and social activities that enhance their quality of life.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational policies.
- Ensure residents' rooms and care areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Support residents and families with empathy and professionalism during both routine and challenging situations.
- Adhere to LMH policies and procedures, infection prevention and control practices, workplace safety standards, and emergency protocols.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and pride in the workplace.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Compensation & Schedule

- Starting wage: $25.55 per hour

· Shift Premiums: Evening and night shifts is $0.85/hour, weekend shift is $1.10 and benefit in lieu is $1.25

- 8 hour shifts
- Primarily scheduled in Long-Term Care, with opportunities to work occasional shifts in the Retirement Residence.

· New hires are typically scheduled a minimum of 24 hours in a bi-weekly pay period.

- Employment is subject to a 450-hour probationary period in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.

This position is part of the applicable bargaining unit. Wages, hours of work, benefits, seniority, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement.
