Child & Youth Care Worker

HF Resources is seeking a dependable and culturally responsive Child & Youth Care Worker to support children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) living in care.

This position supports ASD children and youth by maintaining a safe, structured, trauma-informed, and culturally respectful home environment. The successful candidate must be consistently available for the following weekend schedule:

- Friday: 2:45 p.m.–9:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

This position provides approximately 30.25 hours per week. Regular attendance for the complete weekend schedule is an essential requirement as well as attending schedulded training and staff meetings.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure that each person served has their basic needs met, including food, clothing, shelter, hygiene, safety, and emotional support.
- Follow individual service plans, safety plans, behaviour support plans, and established household routines.
- Build respectful and supportive relationships with children and youth.
- Provide opportunities for children and youth to participate in Indigenous cultural teachings, activities, ceremonies, and community events.
- Work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families, caseworkers, schools, and other professionals.
- Support educational needs, including homework, school attendance, and communication with education or day-program providers.
- Transport and accompany children and youth to appointments, recreational activities, cultural events, family visits, and community programs.
- Administer and document medications in accordance with HF Resources’ policies and training.
- Plan and participate in recreational, cultural, educational, and life-skills activities.
- Maintain consistent, non-punitive routines, expectations, boundaries, and positive behaviour supports.
- Respond safely and professionally to emotional distress, behavioural escalation, critical incidents, and emergencies.
- Complete household duties and help maintain a protected, clean, and welcoming residence.

Documentation Responsibilities





Employees must complete all required documentation accurately, objectively, and on time. This may include:

- Contact notes
- Daily progress notes
- Critical Incident Reports
- Medication Administration Records
- Clothing and personal-property inventories
- Behaviour, activity, health, and safety tracking forms
- Consent and program forms
- Shift logs and other required records

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

- Experience supporting children or youth in group care, residential care, community services, or a comparable setting.
- A diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, community practices, and the ongoing effects of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
- The ability to support cultural programming respectfully and to follow guidance from children, families, communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence.
- A satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- The ability to communicate professionally and complete clear, accurate documentation.
- Reliable availability for all scheduled weekend shifts.

Employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing:

- A satisfactory Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check
- A satisfactory Alberta Child Intervention Record Check
- Standard First Aid and CPR




- A satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Proof of a valid Alberta driver’s licence

Required checks must be dated within six months of submission to HF Resources.

- HF Resources’ non-restraint and restrictive-procedure policies

HF Resources provides ongoing training and professional development based on the needs of the children and youth in its care.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly wage: $18-26 per hour

Employees who work an average of at least 30 hours per week may be eligible for HF Resources’ benefit program, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of the applicable plan.
