The opportunity:

The Overlay Technician/Welder uses a variety of welding and thermal spray processes to apply surfacing materials to large steel components, in order to extend their life in the mining, construction and oil & gas industries. Using automated and semi-automated equipment, the Overlay Technician observes the process, and using skills learned on the job, adjusts the application process to provide the optimal wear solution.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Application of tungsten carbide overlays, using the SF Lance (thermal spray) or PTAW (welding) processes, to desired thickness and coverage on a variety of steel components.

· Assist in the assembly and disassembly of major components.

· Use hand and power tools including grinders, saws, drills etc.

· Use work-handling equipment (overhead cranes, forklift, pallet jacks, wheeled carts etc) to transfer materials.

Hardsurfacing and grinding of hardsurfacing using FCAW process

· Inspection of components before, during and after processing.





· Maintenance of welding, thermal spray and work handling equipment as required.

· Maintain the work area in a clean, secure and organized manner.

· Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

· Follow all health and safety regulations.

Other requirements are:

· High School Diploma or GED preferred.

· Basic knowledge of shop tools and materials. Experience working “with your hands” is considered and asset.

· Knowledge of/experience with PTAW, thermal spray and welding processes (C Ticket) considered an asset

Journeyman ticket or proof of apprenticeship (1st and/or 2nd year accepted)

· Able to lift 50 lbs.

· Available to work occasional overtime and day or night shift as required.
