Junior Estimator

Light-weight Building Systems Inc. (LBS) is looking for a Junior Estimator to join our team and support our Business Development and Estimating departments.

This is a outstanding opportunity for someone who is starting their career in construction and estimating and is looking for a company where they can learn, grow, and develop their skills. Previous estimating experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is motivated, detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers, and interested in learning about the construction industry.

The Junior Estimator will work closely with our experienced team to learn how to review drawings, complete material takeoffs, gather pricing, prepare estimates, and assist with construction proposals. Training and guidance will be provided.

Light-weight Building Systems Inc. manages projects across North America from our head office located approximately 20 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta. LBS is an industry leader in providing load-bearing steel stud building design and construction services. We provide design engineering solutions, fabrication of system components, and all required on-site construction services for complete steel stud structures and more.

What You Will Do

As a Junior Estimator, you will learn and assist with:

Reviewing architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.

Learning how to complete material quantity takeoffs.

Assisting with preparing project estimates and quotations.

Gathering material and supplier pricing.

Preparing spreadsheets and maintaining estimating information.





Assisting with proposals and bid submissions.

Identifying questions or potential issues with project drawings and scope.

Supporting the Business Development and Estimating Team with day-to-day tasks.

Learning about steel stud construction, project pricing, and how construction projects are delivered.

Taking on additional responsibilities as your knowledge and experience grow.

You don't need to know everything about estimating to be successful in this position. We're willing to train the right person.

Experience & Education

Previous estimating experience is not required.

The following would be considered an asset, but are not required:

Construction or trades experience.

Experience reading construction drawings.

Experience with quantity takeoffs or estimating.

Experience with Microsoft Excel.

Experience with PlanSwift, Salesforce, or other construction/estimating software.

Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related field.

We are also open to candidates who are recent graduates, are changing careers, or have a strong interest in learning the construction industry.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00-$45,000.00 per year

Experience:

- Construction estimating: 1 year (preferred)
