About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a father living with inclusion body myositis (IBM), a progressive muscular condition affecting his mobility. He is wheelchair-bound and requires support with daily activities. Despite his physical limitations, he remains mentally sharp, curious, and people-loving. He has a passion for gardening, reading, and engaging in lively discussions. His wife provides primary care between visits, and both parents are avid readers who enjoy meaningful conversation. The father is becoming increasingly withdrawn due to his physical decline and frustration with his limitations, making companionship and encouragement essential.

Responsibilities:

- Assist with morning and evening routines including toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, and dressing
- Support with mobility using wheelchair and walker
- Provide toileting assistance throughout the day as needed
- Light tidying and household tasks related to his care
- Drive the client in his wheelchair-accessible van to outings such as garden centers and appointments
- Engage in conversation and provide companionship to help combat social withdrawal
- Encourage participation in activities he enjoys, particularly gardening
- Maintain dignity and respect while providing personal care

What We're Looking For:

- PSW certification required
- Experience with mobility assistance and wheelchair transfers
- Comfortable operating a wheelchair-accessible van (training will be provided on first day)
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative
- Brings positive energy and engages warmly with clients
- English-speaking required; Dutch is a bonus
- Interest in gardening, reading, or intellectual conversation is an asset
- Patient and understanding with clients experiencing frustration due to physical decline

Schedule:





Weekend coverage is the immediate priority, with potential to expand to weekdays and holidays. Shifts are typically 3-6 hours per visit. This role supplements existing Ontario Health at Home services and may transition to full private care over time. Consistency is essential, as the family values building a trusting relationship with one dedicated caregiver.

The home is fully wheelchair-accessible with an elevator, and accommodation options are available for the right candidate if needed long-term.

Feeding challenges are starting to emerge. Guest suite available in basement and separate apartment across the street for future live-in arrangements if needed.
