We are looking for an innovative, creative, and flexible teacher who demonstrates a proficient understanding of the renewed BC curriculum, the K–12 Reporting Policy, and School District 8, Kootenay Lake’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan. The successful applicant will have recent experience teaching core curriculum in a multi-aged middle school setting and demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary and cross-curricular teaching and planning.

The successful applicant will be comfortable working within a collaborative middle-years model, balancing responsibility for an assigned core group of students with subject-area teaching across multiple HUB groups. They will be well-versed in assessment practices that support learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and the effective integration of technology. Position Description:

The successful applicant will be assigned to one of our four Grade 7 and 8 HUBs. Our HUB model provides students with a consistent core teacher who serves as a primary school based connection and helps oversee each student’s overall school program. HUB teachers monitor student progress and engagement, support academic and social-emotional needs, and serve as a key point of communication between students, families, classroom teachers, and the School Based Team (SBT).

Within their assigned HUB, the successful applicant will teach Humanities, integrating English Language Arts and Social Studies through interdisciplinary and cross-curricular learning. They will work collaboratively with their HUB partners to co-design learning experiences, support literacy development across the curriculum, and contribute to integrated curricular projects and learning opportunities.

The successful applicant will also teach Science to all four Grade 7 and 8 HUB groups,



providing consistency in Science programming across the middle years program while working collaboratively with the HUB team to identify meaningful opportunities for curricular integration. In addition, the teaching assignment includes an elective block of French 7 and 8.

This position requires a teacher who values collaboration, strong relationships, and shared responsibility for student success, and who is comfortable working both as the core teacher for an assigned HUB and as a subject area teacher across the broader Middle Years Program.

1. Demonstrated ability to plan engaging, developmentally appropriate learning for Middle Years students using backward design, differentiation, and interdisciplinary approaches to meet the strengths, needs, interests, and abilities of diverse learners.

2. Demonstrated ability to create safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments that foster student engagement, belonging, self-regulation, and responsibility for learning.

3. Experience collaborating with colleagues and the School Based Team, including Inclusion Support, Aboriginal Education, Education Assistants, and Counselling, to plan and implement appropriate supports, adaptations, modifications, and differentiation for students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.

4. Knowledge and application of current, research-informed practices that support social-emotional learning, mental health literacy, and student well-being.

5. Demonstrated ability to establish clear learning intentions aligned with BC curriculum Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies, and to communicate student learning effectively with students and families in accordance with the K–12 Student Reporting Policy.

6. Demonstrated proficiency in assessment practices that support learning, including the use of varied assessment strategies to gather evidence of learning and inform instruction.

7. Experience using educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning, along with a demonstrated willingness to learn and integrate new tools and applications.
