Overview

We are looking for an experienced Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) to manage year-end accounting, financial reporting, corporate tax filings, and financial analysis for a group of privately held companies.

The ideal candidate will have previous public accounting experience and be comfortable taking a company's books from internally prepared accounting records through year-end adjustments, financial statement preparation, and corporate tax filing.

Our businesses operate across multiple entities, so experience with intercompany transactions, related-party balances, corporate structures, and consolidated or combined financial reporting would be a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare year-end financial statements for multiple privately held corporations
- Prepare year-end working papers and adjusting journal entries
- Prepare and/or review corporate T2 income tax returns
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with applicable Canadian accounting standards
- Prepare compilation engagement financial statements where applicable
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Review internally maintained accounting records for year-end accuracy
- Manage intercompany transactions, due-to/due-from accounts, shareholder loans and related-party balances
- Prepare consolidated or combined financial information across related companies
- Assist with GST/HST and other corporate filings as required
- Maintain fixed-asset and capital-asset schedules
- Prepare financial reporting packages for ownership and management




- Work with management on budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow analysis and financial planning
- Assist with financial information requested by banks and other lenders
- Communicate with external accountants, CRA, financial institutions and other professional advisors as required
- Help improve internal accounting procedures, controls and financial reporting processes

Qualifications

- CPA designation in Canada required
- Minimum 4–7 years of relevant accounting experience with a CPA firm.
- Previous experience in a CPA/public accounting firm strongly preferred
- Strong experience preparing year-end financial statements and corporate tax returns
- Experience with compilation engagements / CSRS 4200 strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of Canadian corporate taxation and financial reporting
- Experience with multi-company accounting and intercompany transactions
- Experience preparing consolidated or combined financial statements is an asset
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with Sage 50 or similar accounting software is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to independently manage deadlines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

We are particularly interested in someone who has worked as a Senior Accountant, Manager, or similar role within a CPA firm and is comfortable independently managing the year-end process for multiple privately held companies.

The successful candidate should be able to review internally prepared books, identify necessary adjustments, prepare year-end working papers and financial statements, complete corporate tax filings, and work directly with ownership and management.

Experience working with companies that have multiple related corporations, operating companies, holding companies, real estate assets, related-party transactions and intercompany balances would be highly valued.
