We are seeking an experienced, reliable, and hands-on Barn Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a private barn and property. This role is responsible for ensuring a high standard of horse care, managing barn staff and scheduling, maintaining the property, and keeping daily operations running smoothly.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, experienced with horses and farm equipment, and comfortable taking ownership of the barn with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

- Oversee and participate in daily horse care, including feeding, turnout, blanketing, grooming, medications, and monitoring horse health and wellbeing.
- Manage barn staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and ensuring appropriate coverage for horse care, including weekends, holidays, vacations, and unexpected absences.
- Supervise and work alongside a Barn Hand who benefits from clear communication, consistent routines, and straightforward expectations. Experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including individuals with autism, is an asset.
- Coordinate with veterinarians, farriers, and other equine professionals as required.
- Maintain feed, bedding, supplements, medications, and other barn supplies.
- Safely operating a 50-horsepower John Deere tractor, lawnmower, and other farm equipment is an asset.
- Cut grass, harrow fields and paddocks, move hay, and complete general property and pasture maintenance.
- Monitor and maintain fencing, gates, paddocks,



equipment, and barn facilities.
- Identify maintenance, safety, staffing, or horse-care concerns and take initiative to resolve them.
- Report directly to the Barn Owner and provide updates on horse care, staffing, property, and operational needs.
- Complete additional ad hoc barn and property-related duties as requested by the Barn Owner.

Qualifications

- Strong horse-care experience; previous barn management experience preferred.
- Experience managing or supervising employees, including scheduling and training.
- Experience safely operating tractors and farm equipment is required.
- Knowledge of equine health, behaviour, feeding, and general husbandry.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, patient, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Equine first aid certification is an asset.

Position: Full time

Compensation: Based on experience

Reports to: Barn Owner

Weekend, holiday, and occasional emergency availability may be required to ensure appropriate horse-care coverage.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
